Girl Power! The Next Generation

You know that Spice Girls reunion that the world has been aching for FOR YEARS now? Yeah, well it kinda happened over the weekend at Geri Halliwell's Christening for her baby girl Bluebell Madonna. Here are pictures of Geri and her little sweet pea as they arrived at the church for the ceremony:

Geri was lookin' pretty good in that slinky little dress. I'm not sure how appropriate a dress like that would be for a church service ... but when you're baptizing the fruit of a Spice Girl's loins well, I guess you never know what you're going to get. I'm just relived she didn't show up wearing platform boots and a sequined Union Jack dress. [Source]

As for the "reunion", all of the other Spice Girls were in attendance sans for the Scariest Spice of all -- Mel B. Here are pics of the Spices getting along with one another:

The Spice Girls have reunited for a one-off event - the christening of Geri Halliwell's daughter Bluebell. Four of the band's former line-up made it including the former Posh Spice Victoria Beckham who is thought to have been made a godmother for helping Miss Halliwell, 34, through her pregnancy. Baby Spice Emma Bunton, who is expecting her first child, and Melanie Chisholm - the former Sporty Spice - were also among the 100 guests. The group's fifth member, Scary Spice Melanie Brown, who lives with her family in the U.S., was the sole absentee. Miss Halliwell - Ginger Spice - showed off Bluebell to wellwishers, posing with the flowers her 11-monthold daughter is named after. Black limousines ferried VIP guests from St Michael's church in Highgate, North London, to an after-service party at Miss Halliwell's nearby home ... Lady Isabella Hervey, who attended the ceremony along with Little Britain star David Walliams, said: "It was a lovely service. Geri looked stunning. It was good to see so many of the Spice Girls back together and getting on so well." There was no sign of Bluebell's father, Sacha Gervasi. Miss Halliwell became pregnant after a brief relationship with the 40-year-old scriptwriter in Los Angeles and relations between the two are said to be fraught. Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) kinda had to be there since she was chosen to be the Godmother, Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) kinda had to be there since she is "Baby Spice" and this is a "Spice Baby" event and Mel C. (Sporty Spice) kinda had to be there because she keeps belly-achin' that she is never invited to these Spice-related events. I wonder what Mel B. did to get on Geri's bad side resulting in her uninvitedness. I suppose it's possible that Mel couldn't make the trip, what with havin' birthed a baby herself very recently ... but I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the Halliwell camp was on Team Eddie! I think the finger points directly at Bluebell Madonna. [Source, Source]

While Posh was bizzy hanging with her former cohorts, David Beckham was bizzy being hawt all by his lonesome ... and who knew, Becks is a Cincinnati Reds fan:

Personally, I would like him much better in the Blue and Orange colors of the Detroit Tigers but ... oh, who am I kidding ... I'd love him best in nothing at all. [Source]

Madonna has packed up her bags, gathered her children, David Banda and Lourdes, and has left the beautiful country of Malawi for home ... and she did so without smuggling out another child to adopt in the process. Here are pictures of Madonna and David Banda boarding their plane over the weekend:

Madonna wrapped up her six-day trip to Malawi on Sunday, jetting off with her daughter Lourdes and 1-year-old son David, whom she's in the process of adopting. The pop star spent time in the country working on projects for her charity, Raising Malawi, including the opening of a children's health care center. She also made a visit to Home of Hope, the orphanage where she found David, the Associated Press reports. But one thing that remained unclear was whether she met with Yohane Banda, the 32-year-old biological father of her adopted son. A source at the orphanage tells PEOPLE that "[Banda] was told he would spend some time with his son," but the meeting was canceled. Banda, an onion and tomato farmer, left the border district of Mchinji early Saturday expecting to reunite with David. But it was not to be. "They had reached the town of Namitete when the executive director got a call from Madonna's people telling her that the meeting had been called off," said the source. "They were not given reasons." Although several British tabloids have reported that the father-and-son reunion took place Tuesday, orphanage sources say the peasant farmer had been waiting for the meeting. Meanwhile, amid reports that Madonna was looking to adopt another child – a girl named Grace – the pop star's rep continued to issue denials over the weekend. "Madonna is not adopting Grace or any other child from Malawi – or anywhere else," Rosenberg told PEOPLE Sunday. "She does not know any child named Grace." It's a shame that they went all that way and spent so much time in Malawi and the meeting with Yohane couldn't take place ... I hope nothing shady was going on. So anyways, it looks like Madonna has really chilled on the adopting of more children -- for now. We'll see how long she stays chill. [Source]

Much of "Young Hollywood" (and a few oldsters) came out for the Movieline Hollywood Life 9th Annual Young Hollywood Awards at The Fonda in Hollywood, CA last night ... here are a few pics from the red carpet:

Now, I have no idea what the Movieline Hollywood Life 9th Annual Young Hollywood Awards are all about (after all, there are far too many awards shows already as it is ... and the real awards season is still months away) but I suppose any chance for the Hollywood "It" Kids to come out and smile pretty on the red carpet is good enough. It looks like my girl Kristin Cavallari got herself some new hair ... a whole lotta new hair. And as hot as Chris Evans is, I hate that he always looks constipated when he smiles on the red carpet. I'm sure he most deserving members of Young Hollywood walked away with great award trophies last night ... trophies that are sure to be displayed on mantles until those Oscars start rolling in. Hey, I even typed that with a straight face. [Source]

Claire Danes (with her dude Hugh Dancy), Naomi Watts (with her babydaddy Liev Schrieber) and others were on hand for the Broadway premiere of the hit show Frost/Nixon:

I had tentative plans to see this show when I was in NYC last but I never got my shizz together enough to make it to the show. I've been reading really great things about this show that deals with the famous David Frost interviews of Richard Nixon where the disgraced ex-president kinda admitted his role in the Watergate scandal. From what I understand, the performances are amazing. I really hope I get to see this show on one of my trips to NYC ... if Fergilicious, the former Duchess of York, is a fan then it must be worth seeing. [Source]

Now, normally I am not a fan of dogs shows (whether they involve celebs or not) but sometime the right mix of celebs peak my interest ... like say Ian Somerhalder, the old medical examiner dude from CSI: (Robert David Hall) and a couple of peeps from The Young and the Restless (Greg Rikaart and Michelle Stafford). Here are a few pics from the Nuts for Mutts event that took place in Woodland Hills, CA over the weekend:

Aww ... some of the celebs who showed up even got blue ribbons! How precious! Yeah, I still don't get dog shows but I kinda love that celebs can really get into the same things that regular people can get into. [Source]

Hmmm ... do you suppose that Olivier Martinez is still sore that the paparazzi caught him cheating on Kylie Minogue and that is why she dumped his ass?

Nah, I'm sure he's gotten over it by now. [Source]

Cristiano Ronaldo was the belle of the ball at the PFA Awards over the weekend ... the little scamp took home the trophies for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year -- imagine that!

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo was on Sunday named the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. The 22-year-old Portugal winger is the first player to win both awards in the same season since Andy Gray in 1977. Ronaldo has been in incredible form for United who remain on course for a Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League treble. Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was second and Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes third in the senior award. Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs, last year's winner Steven Gerrard of Liverpool and 19-year-old Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas also made ths shortlist. Ronaldo, who has scored 16 Premiership goals so far this season, said it was a big honour to be singled out by his peers. "It is a special night. It is amazing and a big honour for me to win trophies like this in the English Premier League. I am very proud. My colleagues have voted for me and that is fantastic because the players know the qualities of players. I want to keep working hard and getting better because these trophies have now given me more motivation. At this moment, I am consistent. I am more mature now and I am playing better. Everything is right this season and I am really enjoying it. I am still young and I am learning more every day" ... Manchester United took centre stage with eight of their players making it into the Premier League team of the year and manager Sir Alex Ferguson being honoured with the PFA Special Merit Award. Ferguson paid tribute to Ronaldo, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in August 2003 on a 12.2 million pound deal. "At this moment in time, I think he is the best player in the world and his season has been incredible," he said. Whew! Winning the award for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in the same year? My hat is off to you, Cristiano ... the least you could do is take your shirt off for us. Oh, Adam Brody ... I love it when you fix your hair just so so that all the world can think that you don't actually do anyting to your hair at all:

I like the "just rolled out of bed" look on Adam ... it suits him. [Source]

It is my sad duty to inform ya'll that former Russian leader Boris Yeltsin has Peaced the Spork Out today ... he was 76 years old:

Former President Boris Yeltsin, who hastened the collapse of the Soviet Union by scrambling atop a tank to rally opposition against a hard-line coup and later pushed Russia to embrace democracy and a market economy, died Monday at age 76. Kremlin spokesman Alexander Smirnov confirmed Yeltsin's death, and Russian news agencies cited Sergei Mironov, head of the presidential administration's medical center, as saying the former president died Monday of heart failure at the Central Clinical Hospital. The first freely elected leader of Russia, Yeltsin was initially admired abroad for his defiance of the monolithic Communist system. But many Russians will remember him mostly for presiding over the steep decline of their nation. Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet president, summed up the complexity of Yeltsin's legacy in a condolence statement minutes after the death was announced. He referred to Yeltsin as one "on whose shoulders are both great deeds for the country and serious errors," according to the news agency Interfax. Defense Secretary Robert Gates called Yeltsin "an important figure in Russian history." "No Americans, at least, will forget seeing him standing on the tank outside the White House (the Russian parliament building) resisting the coup attempt," Gates said while on a visit to Moscow ... Yeltsin had made a stunning debut as Russian president. He introduced many basics of democracy, guaranteeing the rights to free speech, private property and multiparty elections, and opening the borders to trade and travel. Though full of bluster, he revealed more of his personal life and private doubts than any previous Russian leader had. "The debilitating bouts of depression, the grave second thoughts, the insomnia and headaches in the middle of the night, the tears and despair ... the hurt from people close to me who did not support me at the last minute, who didn't hold up, who deceived me — I have had to bear all of this," he wrote in his 1994 memoir, "The Struggle for Russia." Ah, Boris ... at least your suffering is over. I will remember Yeltsin standing on top of that tank ... it was a very 90s moment. He will be missed. [Source]

In somewhat exciting Batman movie news, here is our first good look at what Heath Ledger will look like as The Joker in the new movie The Dark Knight:

Apparently, this picture comes from the movie's make-up or color test department. I like the idea of Heath as The Joker ... it's a bit too early to tell if he will totally look the part but this early look at how he may turn out is promising. It's funny to think that the last person who played The Joker on the big screen was Jack Nicholson almost 20 years ago. [Source, thanks Becks]

UPDATE: Boo! Pink reader Gary gave me the head's up that the Heath Ledger as The Joker picture is a fake. Dagnabit!

And finally, in other superhero news, my fave LA band The Oohlas are featured on the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack (along with a few other bands ... like The Killers, Snow Patrol and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and I have to urge you all to check them out:

I can't say enough great things about this band ... I am SO thrilled that they have a song on possibly the biggest soundtrack of the year. I am exceedingly glad that a whole bunch of people will get to hear how awesome they are when they get this soundtrack. You can get the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack HERE and you can get The Oohlas album Best Stop Pop HERE. [Source]

Les News:
Yesterday didn't turn out to be as beautiful as I thought ... it got cloudy and rainy in the afternoon. Still, I had a nice day driving around town. I spent last night reading some more ... no biggie.

And this post is kinda late ... so I'm out.
