20 Y.O.

Things are pretty chill today in gossland but I am having such a great time here in Detroit that I don't really mind all that much. But, there are a few things to take care of today so let's get to it.

Kylie Minogue enjoyed a very special party last night in celebration of the 20-year anniversary of her first single, The Locomotion, which was released in 1987. Here are a few pictures of Kylie and her little sister Dannii Minogue as they made their way to the gala anniversary affair in London, England last night:

KYLIE Minogue celebrated the 20th anniversary of her first hit single, Locomotion, with a lavish bash in London yesterday. Wearing a glamorous Marilyn Monroe-style, floor-skimming white gown, Minogue arrived alone at the party just before 8pm. Looking as carefree as any single girl, the pop princess dispelled rumours of a reunion with former lover Olivier Martinez, who was noticeably absent. It had been reported that Minogue, 39, had rekindled her relationship with the actor, whose rumoured infidelity ended their four-year romance in February. Guests at last night's do, at London's stately Fulham Palace, jetted into the UK capital from around the world. Invitations were extremely exclusive, with less than 100 making the cut. Not wishing to upstage her older sister, Dannii Minogue discreetly arrived at 9pm. Other celebrities attending included singer Natalie Imbruglia, former Neighbours flame Jason Donovan, record mogul Pete Waterman from her former label Stock, Aitken & Waterman, and Z-list British TV personality June Sarpong ... Inside, Minogue thanked long-time manager Terry Blamey and danced with guests to '80s classics. Then she made a sneaky dash to the ladies loos to change into a new, light-red outfit. About 2am, the pint-sized singer and her crowd headed to swanky London nightclub Movida. It's hard to believe that it's been 20 years since Kylie Minogue released her first single. Her debut album, titled simply Kylie, was not released in the US until 1988 but I've been with her since the very beginning. I remember seeing the video for The Locomotion on MTV and falling in love with her. I remember saving my allowance so that I could ride my bike to my friendly neighborhood Woolworth's so that I could buy her cassette tape. From that moment on, I have been collecting Kylie Minogue albums ever since (which was no small feat for us US fans ... they stopped releasing her albums here in America after Enjoy Yourself and I had to search out her albums in import shops). Madonna is the only solo female artist that I still love with a passion that predates my love affair with Kylie. I am so happy that 20 years later, she is still enjoying huge success and is still hard at work making great music. Much congrats and love, Kylie, on your 20th anniversary. I'm looking forward to 20 more years of great music ahead! [Source]

M.I.A. is a new female solo artist that I really love these days ... if you haven't heard her debut album Arular yet, I must insist that you drop everything and do so right now. It's amazing. M.I.A. is about to release her second album, Kala, on August 20 and she is bizzy doing a sorts of shows to promote the album's release. Here are pictures of M.I.A. on stage at Day 1 of the Lollapalooza festival which is taking place in Chicago, IL this weekend:

M.I.A. is among the most inventive and creative musicians around right now. She has an amazing ability to craft inspired music and lyrics. To this day, I still contend that seeing her live in concert was among the most fun shows I've ever attended. I saw her a couple of years ago here in Detroit when she opened up for LCD Soundsystem and there wasn't a single person in the entire venue who wasn't having the time of their lives. If M.I.A. can make the jaded, cross-armed hipsters dance around and look happy then you know she's something special. I've been able to preview her new album Kala and I can't wait to hear her perform it live. If you are unfamiliar with her music, I highly suggest you check it out ... I'm pretty sure that you'll love her as much as I do. [Source]

Ali Larter of Heroes fame hosted a book release party for Svedka vodka at the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu, CA yesterday and Ian Ziering was among the party attendees. Here are a few pics from the event last night:

As much as I love Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere and Zachary Quinto, I think that Ali Larter is the Heroes cast member that is most endearing to me. I've been an Ali fan for years before she landed her choice role on Heroes. I loved her in Final Destination and Legally Blonde and she will be appearing alongside Milla Jovovich in the new movie Resident Evil: Extinction next month. Ali always struck me as the kind of actress who got a lot of work but never really managed to grab the spotlight ... I think her role on Heroes will go a long way to make sure she gets the recognition that she deserves. Ian Ziering, on the other hand, will forever be Steve Sanders from Beverly Hills, 90210 no matter what else he does in his career (and honestly, I don't expect that he will be doing anything signification for the rest of his career) so he needs to just enjoy the fact that he gets to get invites to things like Svedka parties. Hey, at least he's hot. [Source]

In other party news, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have jetted off to Saint Tropez to enjoy a little downtime from all the hard work that he has been doing in Berlin, Germany on the set of his new movie Valkyrie. Here are pictures of TomKat as they made their way out of the V.I.P. Room on their way to their yacht:

It's so sad ... I don't even recognize Katie Holmes anymore. All the light seems to have been zapped from her eyes. She either looks docile or exceedingly happy and in both instances, she never looks natural. Her conservative dress and haircut have aged her so much, it's hard to see the 29-year old girl in her anymore. Blah. I suppose as long as Tom is happy, that is all that matters. [Source]

In happier (well, at least less creepy) couples news, here are pictures of Zac Efron and his co-star/girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens hanging out together in SoHo, NYC doing what they do best together -- shopping.

As cute as these two are as a couple, it's hard to see their relationship as a genuine one. They played a couple in the hugely successful Disney movie High School Musical and when the time was right for the actors to have a "romantic partner" in real life, they hooked up and became attached. Hmm ... maybe these two are more like TomKat than I previously thought. In any event, even tho they never struck me as a genuine couple, I must admit that they do seem to have a lot in common ... [Source]

... but I'm sure that if things don't work out for Zanessa, it'll all be due to Zac's dangerous tanning addiction:

This much tanning can only lead to a life of wreck and ruin ... unless you're George Hamilton. Sadly, I don't see Zac Efron as the George Hamilton ... just yet. [Source, thanks Shirley]

Here are a few outtake photos of Lindsay Lohan from her most recent photospread in Elle magazine:

Despite the fact that Lindsay gave an interview to Elle telling the mag that she would never drive drunk and then 36 hours later was arrested for the first of her two drunk driving arrests in under 2 months, I think these photos are stunning ... don't you? [Source]

I'm really sorry to have to do this to you, but duty calls ... here is a very sobering, very uncomfortable nekkid photo of Goldie Hawn's man Kurt Russell in all his glory:

I feel I must insist that the squeamish and/or faint of heart not click on the image above to see the uncensored pic ... I really can't be held responsible for what maladies befall those of you who choose to get a good look at Mr. Russell's meat sword. You have been warned. [Source]

Here is this week's batch of pictures sent in by Pink is the new Blog readers -- Claire sends in a pic of her husband Brandon who has bravely undergone a chemo treatment and blood transfusion and is already well on his way to recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and Claire and I hope to have an update very soon that Brandon is back to his good ol', normal self -- Chandle, who is in Nepal working to end child labor, sends in a pic from Elephant Bath time in Chitiwan -- Andi sends in a pic from Costa del Sol in Barcelona, Spain -- Ginny sends in a pic of her cousin Lisa who is getting married in Colorado on August 25th -- Stacey sends in a pic, shot by her personal photog Di, from her wedding day titled Ode To Pink Is The New Blog:

As always, thank you all for taking the time to not only include Pink is the new Blog in your celebrations and milestone events but for also taking the time to share your pics with all of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart.

One last thing, sometime last night, PITNB enjoyed its 100 millionth visitor:

As I've mentioned before, I've been blogging since August 2002 (my 5 year ani is coming up soon actually) but PITNB only came into existence in June of 2004 -- so since then, there have been 100 million unique visits to my site! Words cannot express how amazing this is to me ... never, ever did I dream that I would be able to speak to 100 million people in my life and yet, the blog rolls on and life is great. Thank you all so much for enjoying my blog as much as I do. I love writing and I hope y'all continue to love reading :) XOXO

Les News:
My first day here in Detroit was great. I went to see my boy Tomy to get one of his amazing haircuts at Six Salon in Royal Oak, MI and then I went over to Somerset to do some shopping for Zakiya's birthday party (which is tomorrow). Seriously, I got her some of the cutest stuff ever ... I can't wait to give it to her!!

After that was taken care of, I met up with Sarah and Mark for dinner at Crave in Dearborn and then we hung out around town to enjoy the Dearborn Homecoming festivities (where I got to meet Pink readers Kristin and Lori) all night long. Our friend Candice was celebrating her birthday last night so we had to get her sufficiently hammered for the occasion. There are a lot of really great photos on her camera ... I just have to wait for her to send them to me so that I can share :)

Tonight, Sarah, Mark and I are off to Comerica Park Tiger Stadium v. 2.0 to cheer on the Tigers against the Chicago White Sox. I hope y'all are having a great Saturday ... I am out.
