The Fast And The Spurious

Ahhh ... it's always so nice being home again after a long plane ride. The weather here is sunny and glorious as it ever was (tho, I hear it actually rained a couple of days ago -- which I absolutely refuse to believe). The good news is that I made it back home to LA safe and sound ... the bad news is that my luggage didn't arrive with me. It is my understanding that my suitcase will be delivered to my home "sometime today" and I'm just hoping that it's sooner rather than later. Honestly, I really love JetBlue and I never go thru this sort of thing so I guess my good travel karma has been all used up. No worries, tho, I'm sure it'll get here and all will be right with the world again. Let's get to the day's goss ...

Britney Spears continues to spend time with choreographer RJ Durell in the wake of reports that they are collaborating together on her "surprise" 2007 MTV VMAs performance at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on September 9th. The pair spent some time hanging out together on Saturday night first grabbing a bite to eat at Koi and then making their way to the Tropicana Bar before retiring for the night somewhere in the Valley (they exited the freeway on Vineland Ave. which takes you right to the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood, CA) ... here are a couple of pics:

I tend to believe that the performance will actually happen ... RJ's agent has gone to great lengths to make sure that word got out that they are working together. Barring any last minute freak-outs, I expect that Britney will prolly open the show come Sunday September 9th. It still remains unclear if illusionist Criss Angel is still involved in any way but I suppose its the mystery that makes it all interesting. [Source]

Yesterday afternoon, Britney ditched her friends and opted to devote the lovely Sunday afternoon to her children by spending some quality time at home with them. Unfortch, Brit seemed to have no problem carrying on with the drinking and the smoking even tho she was with her (very nekkid) kids:

I love the girl, I really do ... but it's hard seeing her engaged in this sort of childish behavior. I really don't think it's a good idea for Brit Brit to enjoy her "mommy lollipops" right in front of the kids. I realize that it is very unfair to stand back and seemingly criticize everything she does but there really is no justification for smoking around children ... whether they're your kids or not. It just seems like she doesn't really use common sense a lot of the time ... her life would prolly be a lot easier if she just thought about her actions more instead of acting on impulse all the time. It's unfortunate actions like these that lead to stuff like THIS. [Source]

Here are a couple of really cute pictures of Sean Preston and Jayden James spending some nice, genuine quality time with their grandparents Lynne and Jamie Spears:

The grandfolks were allowed to see the kids while Kevin Federline had custody of the children on Friday (he was away working on his acting career on the set of One Tree Hill) cuz we all know that if Brit's got the kids, her parents aren't allowed anywhere near them. Despite the fact that Lynne and Jamie are divorced it's nice to see them come together for the sake of their grandchildren because they prolly don't get much time with the kids as it is. The WHOLE mess is just so incredibly sad ... I cannot imagine how confusing it must be for those poor little boys. I just hope they don't grow up to be alcoholic, chain-smoking rappers or anything like that ... not until they’re at least 8 years old :( [Source]

Ugh, speaking of wannabe rappers, here is the first pic of Kevin Federline hard at work on the set of One Tree Hill in Wilmington, NC this past Friday:

He just looks like a major tool ... which, incidentally, is exactly what he has been cast to portray. [Source]

One of the big stories of the day is the major car accident that involved Nick Hogan (real name Nick Bollea), the young son of famed wrestler Hulk Hogan, which occurred in Clearwater, FL yesterday afternoon. As soon as I turned by BlackBerry on upon arrival last night my inbox got flooded with reports about Nick's accident (and Owen Wilson's hospitalization -- the other big story of the day). Here are a few scary-looking photos of what was left of Nick's car after he flipped and then crashed the car:

Hulk Hogan's son, Nick, was seriously injured in a car accident ... in Clearwater, Fla. Law enforcement tells TMZ the accident occurred around 7:31 PM ET. According to police, a Toyota Supra, driven by Nick Bollea (Hogan's real name), was traveling at a very high rate of speed when it lost control and hit a raised median. The car was flipped around and the back end hit a palm tree. The impact, we're told, "destroyed the entire car." The two male occupants were flown by Medivac helicopter from the accident scene to a hospital in St. Petersburg. We're told both men had "very very serious" injuries. The accident happened on Court Street, a main drag in downtown Clearwater, causing the entire street to be shut down for hours. Fortunately, the news is very good for the Hogan family this morning, since Nick has already been released from the hospital ... tho, the other passenger in the car hasn't been quite so lucky: Hulk Hogan's son Nick Bollea, seriously injured Sunday night after his car careened off the road and struck a 25-ft.-tall palm tree, has been released from St. Petersburg's Bayfront Medical Center in Florida, Entertainment Tonight reports. Bollea, 17, "is no longer a patient," says a spokesperson ... Police called Hogan's injuries non-life-threatening, though the male passenger in his car was critically injured. No charges have been filed. Police, however, say the case remains under investigation. At this point, there is no indication that alcohol was a factor, which is a very good thing. I'm sure we'll be hearing all sorts of things about what went down in Clearwater last night but at this point, I'm just glad that Nick appears to be doing well and it is my sincere hope that the other kid in the car is able to recover fully from his injuries. [Source]

UPDATE: Linda Hogan (Bollea), Nick's mother, has issued the following statement:

"My son Nick and a friend were involved in a car accident last night. Nick suffered minor injuries and has been treated and released from the hospital. At this time, his friend, John Graziano remains hospitalized. Nick is currently at the hospital with John and his family. His sole concern is for the well being of his friend. On behalf of my family, we ask that your thoughts and prayers be with John and his loved ones."

As I mentioned, news broke late yesterday that Owen Wilson was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon following a 911 emergency call to the LA Fire Department at about noon:

TMZ has confirmed that Owen Wilson was taken to the hospital Sunday in Los Angeles. Santa Monica Police issued the following statement to TMZ: "On Sunday Aug. 26. 2007 at 12:10 PM, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street. The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated." TMZ has learned the 911 call came in at 11:59 AM to the L.A. Fire Department. The early news reports had nothing to say about the cause of the emergency but the National Enquirer and Star magazine have upgraded the story, saying that Owen was treated for an attempted suicide: Actor Owen Wilson was hospitalized after attempting suicide, The NATIONAL ENQUIRER has learned exclusively. The ENQUIRER broke the story yesterday of Wilson's tragic cry for help. The actor was transported to St. John's hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. on Sunday, August 26, by ambulance. The ENQUIRER has learned new details about the shocking suicide attempt. Wilson cut both wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills. He was discovered by a family member who summoned help. His situation was dire when he was discovered ... Owen was brought in to St. John's in very serious condition. Police were on the scene at his house and at the hospital. He was treated and stabilized at St. John's and then transferred by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai medical center. His brothers Andrew and Luke were with him. I'm hearing that it was Andrew Wilson (the unfamous brother) who was the family member who found Owen. It's stories like this that remind you that every person has their own demons to contend with and you just never know what sort of stuff could be going on behind the scenes. Just a few months ago Owen was happily flitting about with his girlfriend Kate Hudson and now she's flitting around with Dax Shepard (bizarre, I know) -- who knows if heartbreak could be the cause of this desperate cry for help. I dunno, it just really seems like Hollywood is imploding these days ... tho, I suppose it's always really been this way but it seems crazier these days. I just hope that no one dies in all of the fallout :( [Source, Source]

UPDATE: Owen Wilson has released the following statement in the wake of this incident:

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Heal well, Owen.

Alright, let's move on to some happy news ... the 2007 Teen Choice Awards were held at the Gibson Amphitheater here in LA and aired live on FOX last night. Thanks to the wonders of JetBlue's 32 channels of DirectTV entertainment, I was able to watch some portion of the show. Here are a few pictures of some of the winners from the Teen Choice Awards press room last night:

Hollywood's young stars turned out to shine at the Teen Choice awards on Sunday with television sensation "High School Musical 2" winning a top honor for best TV movie. The Disney musical also won a special award for its recent smash debut on TV in front of an estimated 17 million viewers, and star Zac Efron was given the coveted title, "hottie" ... The show featured songs from Kelly Clarkson, Fergie, Shop Boyz and Avril Lavigne. The only slip-up in the live TV broadcast was when Dane Cook, who was named best comedian, uttered an expletive onstage. Fergie performed "Big Girls Don't Cry" and was honored as this year's Teen Choice female artist of the year. "I have to say this award in particular means so much to me," said Fergie, clutching her surfboard. "Because this award isn't paid for ... it's picked by you." Other winners included Ryan Seacrest for best hissy fit, in the comedy movie "Knocked Up," and Steve Carell for choice scream, in the film "Evan Almighty." Carell also was named best TV actor in a comedy for "The Office." Finally, Miley Cyrus won two awards for summer artist and for best TV actress in a comedy with "Hannah Montana." That show also was named best comedy TV program. Unlike the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, the Teen Choice Awards are way more prestigious ... which is why Fergie Ferg was almost brought to tears giving her surfboard acceptance speech. Actually, all kidding aside, I was very impressed with her performance of Big Girls Don't Cry (Personal) on the show -- she seemed to put on a genuinely heartfelt and unlipsynced performance. You may recall that Kevin Federline made his live performance debut at last year's Teen Choice Awards ... ah, what a difference a year makes. I also managed to catch the live finale of MTV's Making the Band 4 last night (along with many other JetBlue passengers who were seated in my general vicinity) mainly because I wanted to see if the white boy, Donnie, was gonna make the cut. I was sure he was a shoe in ... but alas, he did not actually make the band ...

... homeslice ended up getting a solo record deal with Bad Boy Records instead. Now, I don't know if Donnie is really "all that" but he did manage to win over the very vocal portion of the crowd who still yearns for the days when boybands like Backstreet Boys and *NSync ruled the world. I suppose congrats are in order for him and Diddy's new band which consists of Brian, Qwanell, Robert, Willie and Mike. I hate to admit it but I got sucked into watching all the eps from this MTB4 and will prolly end up watching the next season as well. Oh and funny thing -- as I was making my way to JFK airport yesterday, my car passed a van that was painted "Vote for Donnie on Making the Band 4" and other such slogans. I couldn't tell if the van was being driven by Donnie's mom but I got the distinct impression that it was a family member ... altho, if it was just an overzealous fan than he might do very well as a solo artist. Brangelina returned back to NYC after they jetted helicoptered out to the Hamptons this weekend to spend some more time with their children. Here are ABSOLUTELY CRAZY ADORABLE pics of Brad Pitt with Maddox, Zahara and Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt enjoying a fun day at an NYC park:

Either Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt (the only natural born child of Brangelina's loins) is a very bad girl (one who is never allowed to see sunlight or play with her siblings in public) or she is the more favored, more closely guarded golden child. It's really strange ... Ange and Brad to bring her along on most family outings but she's been curiously absent this past weekend ... maybe she got shipped off to be with grandfolks or something. Anyways, these pics of Brad with the other kids are, quite possibly, the cutest things ever. Zahara is so adorable, I'm dying. I know Brad is trying to be cute when he sticks out his tongue like that ... but is it wrong that it makes him look incredibly hot? Yeah, it prolly is wrong. It's even more wrong that his nips cutting thru his shirt in that pic too. [Source]

New parents Naomi Watts and Liev Schrieber have only one child to contend with these days, their newborn son Alexander. Here are cute pics of Naomi and Liev taking their little bundle of joy out for a stroll here in LA over the weekend:

Yeah, Liev looks happy. Aren't father and son so cute? [Source]

Nicole Richie will be carrying around her newborn baby soon enough but at this point she's still carrying around her ever-expanding baby bump:

She looks really cute pregs. I wonder just how big she's going to get when it's all said and done. [Source]

Here are a couple pictures of Bjork out for a little shopping excursion in France late last week:

We hardly ever see Bjork out in public like this so these pics are a special treat. Photogs don't really like to get very close to Bjork because she tends to snap at the most unexpected times so it's the brave soul who dares take a pic of her. [Source]

Kylie Minogue is usually all smiles for members of the press ... here are pictures of Kylie looking amazing in her pink and blue dress, signing autographs for fans outside of The Ivy in London on Saturday:

Photo credit: Mavrix & Splash News

She also looked amazing the day after just walking around on the streets of London. Word is that her new album, due out sometime this year, is absolutely amazing ... wee! [Source, Source]

Here are a few new pics from the Chicago set of The Dark Knight:

I'm most intrigued by the pics of Anthony Michael Hall. He has mentioned in previous news interviews that his part in the film doesn't amount to much more than a cameo ... but I understand that cameo will likely become a much larger role in future movies. I hear he's playing one of Batman's supervillains and will prolly be one of the main villains in the next sequel. Hmm ... [Source]

And finally, I have to send out lots of love and congrats my best friends Sarah and Mark back home in Detroit ... they spent the weekend moving into their very first home together. Here is a pic of the happy homeowners posing on the porch of their new abode:

This home purchase has been many months in the making and after much blood, sweat and tears, all the paperwork has been signed and they are all moved in. I really wish I could've been there for the happy occasion (tho, I don't mind so much not being around for all that moving ;) but I'll deffo be home for the housewarming party to come. Note the amazing ivy growing on the front of the house ... isn't it pretty? They are planning to have it all removed (boo) but I'm counting on their collective lazy nature to ensure that they do no such thing (yay). Congrats you two ... I know you guys are going to be very happy in your beautiful new home! xoxo

Les News:
OY ... despite the fact that my luggage didn't really make the trip home with me yesterday, I had a pretty easy flight. There were no real delays and I got to watch a bunch of TV that made the time fly by. I caught the LA Ink marathon on TLC and absolutely fell in love with the show. I wasn't a big Miami Ink fan but this show I love:

I've been thinking about my next tattoo for the past year now (actually, I have 2 new tattoos in mind) and I think I'm ready to get 'er done. I've yet to get a color tattoo and seeing how amazing Hannah's work turns out, I think I'd love to have to her do mine for me. High Voltage Tattoo (the real name of Kat Von D's shop) seems like a really cool place to get inked so ... I'm all excited now! I need to take some time to let the excitement cool down for a bit ... once I decide to get the actual tattoo, I like to take about a week or two to let the excitement cool for a bit -- then I know I'm ready. All my current tattoos were done in Detroit ... I think it'll be rad to get new ink here in LA.

I can't wait :)

So yeah ... I'm home again, ready to get some more ink and ready to enjoy LA again. Have a great Monday, y'all. I'm out.
