Mantaray Of Light

Strangely, things are back to relative normal in Britney Spearsland ... which isn't necessarily a good thing, IMHO but ... as usual ... I guess we take what we get. It's unclear if Britney is currently engaged in any sort of out-patient psychiatric care right now but she seems to be back in work mode nonetheless ... here is a picture of Britney as she made her way away from the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood, CA on one of her few trips there this weekend:

I mean, I suppose it's a good thing that she's throwing herself back into her work rather than resorting to cavorting all over town at various convenience stores and gas stations (tho, I suspect she's done her fair share of cavorting at said places since her release from the UCLA Medical Facility last week) but I'd feel much better about her situation if she were ensconced at a treatment facility of some sort, well away from LA, out of the public eye. Who knows, maybe the mere fact that the medical personnel at UCLA might've cleaned her system from all the unnecessary prescription meds that she was reportedly taking before might have made all the difference in her day to day sanity. Again ... we have no idea. It looks like Brit has hired herself a new assistant ... and Sam Lutfi is nowhere to be seen ... maybe focusing on these positive aspects is the way to go. [Source]

The 50th Annual Grammy Awards are set to take place in LA tonight and last night, music mogul Clive Davis threw his annual Pre-Grammy Party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA for a Who's Who of the music elite. Here are a few pics from the event's red carpet:

Of course Ms. Whitney Houston was in the hiz for her sugardaddy Clive (tho, there's still no word on when, if ever, her new album is gonna come out) as were all the usual suspects. I'm not really feelin' the outfit that Rihanna was wearing (she usually has better taste in outfits) and I am not all that crazy for Lindsay Lohan's outfit either (this dress looks way too summery for a February party). Hmm ... to be honest, I think most of the outfits that walked down the purple carpet were pretty fug. In Paula Abdul's case, the fugness even went up to her hair -- that funky bun-like thing hanging off the side of her head looks terrrrrible. But, these are music folk, not fashion folk ... so they should be cut a little slack, no? Okay ... I guess not, they all looked pretty bad ... here's hoping they manage to get their shizz straight in time for tonight's red carpet. [Source]

Elsewhere in Hollywood last night, Xtina Aguilera was the perfect portrait of heaving motherhood at an event at The Broad Contemporary Art Museum (BCAM) at LACMA in LA ... here are a couple of pics;

Hee hee, you just *know* that Xtina is totally lovin' her new hoots. She seems very proud to show them off at every chance she gets ... clearly, she is not suffering one ounce of post-partum sadness at all. Now, if she would just bring out her little baby Max to these events then we can enjoy her new motherhood with her, too :) [Source]

In other mommy news, Vicki B. is doing her best to enjoy all that NYC has to offer since her arrival in town this week for Fashion Week and her 2 Spice Girls concerts here in town. Here are a few pics of VB out with her littlest child, Cruz, as they took a trip together to FAO Schwartz to pick up a few things for him:

I love little Cruz ... he is the cutest little Beckham of all ... and it appears that he is mommy's favorite as well. I'm not sure why exactly VB is programmed to focus all of her attention on this little one more than others (perhaps the reason that the other boys weren't along for the trip to the toy story) but they do make a fantastic couple. I love Cruz's new outerwear ... the House of Gryffindor does have the coolest colors. [Source]

In other Spice news, Mel Sporty Spice C. used her down time to put on a special solo performance at the Grand Ballroom this weekend ... you know, cuz she doesn't have any kids to dote on like the other Spice Girls do:

I'm sure that Mel C. is really validated by her work and doesn't at all resent the other Spices roles as mothers. Hee hee, I keed, I keed ... it only makes sense that Sporty would want to focus on her solo career ... after all, she's the only one of the Spices who really has been able to enjoy solo success all on her own. [Source]

Awww ... well, what have we here ... could it be that party animal Matthew McConaughey has traded in his wild child ways for the relative calm of fatherhood. I don't know that I ever really envisioned seeing Matty boy carrying shopping bags from Oilily:

Can you say Whipped, much? First came the manbag and now we have trips to upscale baby boutiques? I kinda love it! It looks like Matthew is planning on being a very hands on daddy once his little bundle of joy arrives. Oilily is a very girly store ... maybe this is our first clue that Matthew and Camilla are preparing for the arrival of a baby daughter. I love it ... I can't wait!! [Source]

In other celeb baby news ... well, baby no-longer, actually ... the only child of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain has grown into quite a beautiful, fashionable little lady. Here are a few pictures of Frances Bean Cobain as featured in the current issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine:

Those who think Frances Bean Cobain is an enigma wrapped in rock 'n' roll mystery, a shy, blue-eyed kid clinging to mother Courtney Love's hand on assorted red carpets, would be sadly mistaken. A chatty, spritelike firecracker, Frances, 15, is bouncing around her lair, a guesthouse at the back of Courtney's grand manse in Beverly Hills. Said lair houses a kitten ("She's called One, Two, Three because I couldn't decide what to name her"), a big-screen TV, and, on the couch, a BlackBerry and a DVD of Sex and the City. "I love Sex and the City so much," Frances says, plopping on the couch. "I can't wait for the movie. I'm not gonna lie." Frances and Courtney just got back from New York, where they were looking for apartments. "New York is like my dream city," Frances proclaims. "That's where I'm going to live, I'm convinced of it." The two were captured by the paparazzi at LAX, Frances wearing a shock of red lipstick and a pair of satin heels almost as tall as she is. "Oh, yeah, they're Prada," she says in rat-a-tat-tat style. "I bought them maybe three minutes before we got on the plane 'cause we were staying at the Four Seasons and Prada is right next door, thank God. I wore them out of the shop. Mom and I were like 30 minutes late for the airport because we're both very flaky people." Frances is disarmingly direct, dispensing bons mots like a 17th-century raconteur. (This may explain why the French period drama Molière is her current favorite movie.) She's implicitly aware that this interview—with no hovering minders, no publicists, no Mom—represents something of a coming-out party. And she is dressed for the occasion in a sparkly red J. Maskrey cardigan, a navy tank, and a black American Apparel skirt. She recently dyed her hair black, accenting the look with more red lipstick, red fingernails, and — mais oui — red toenails. She has a brand-new nose piercing, too. "Mom went with me. She was freaking out because she thought it was going to be a big stud or a big ring," she says. "And, God, it hurt. It was worth it, though, because it looks so cool." But it's Frances's eyes that have it: Huge pools of "like green, blue, yellow, purple, orange, gray," they are startlingly and immediately reminiscent of her late father, Kurt Cobain. They are inescapable. "I'm very lucky because my eyes work with almost any hair color," Frances notes breezily. "Thanks for the genetics, parents. Rock on!"

It's interesting that people will assign this preconceived notion of this girl based on who her parents are but a full read of this Harper's article really shows that she is just like another teenage girl ... er, well, any other teenage millionaire girl, that is. The piece paints her in such a shockingly normal light (save for the talk about her expensive designer duds) which makes her all the more interesting ... at least to me. She is such a perfect mix of both mother and father ... it's hard to imagine what she must think about it all, especially considering she lost her father at such a young age. It's hard to believe that Frances Bean is 15 years old already ... it's even harder to believe that she's already of age to be featured in a fashion magazine. The photos are fabulous ... I can't wait to see more from the not-so-little Frances Bean. [Source]

It should come as no surprise that 1's of 10's of people ponied up the approx. $10.00 to see Paris Hilton's new movie The Hottie and the Nottie ... but it might be a bit of a surprise to realize that the numbers actually work out that only about 10 people per theater nationwide (of the 111 theaters that made the tragic decision to book this film) had to suffer the indignity of seeing this movie on its opening day:

Debuting on 111 screens, it could only muster $76 per location on its opening day. That means that, on average, 10 people purchased a ticket to see this comic disaster at each theatre with the misfortune of having booked it. Hottie will sell only an anticipated $23,000 during the 3-day weekend for a $207 Per Theatre Average. That's about 26 ticket buyers per location for Friday-Sunday.

Unfortch, I don't know that this will put an end to Paris Hilton movies ... but I hope that it does make it harder for her to get work. I mean, haven't we all suffered enough? [Source]

And finally ... it's time for the Hot Dude of the Week. Things are very chilly here in NYC but that doesn't mean that we can't warm things up a bit with a ripped half-nekkid hawt dude like Jordan:

Sigh ... it's hot semi-nekkidness like this that makes me yearn for the balmy summer days ahead ... especially as I look out the window at the blowing snow that has descended upon NYC this afternoon. This sort of pic also makes me feel guilty about not spending any time at the gym, too, but I do a remarkable job of focusing on other things ;) Enjoy!! [Source]

Les News:
Last night, Diana and I made our way out to The Fillmore to see the second of 2 NYC shows that Siouxsie Sioux (of Siouxsie and the Banshees/The Creatures fame) performed on her very short US tour. The last time that Diana and I saw Siouxsie on stage was when she was still with Budgie and The Creatures were playing at The Shelter in Detroit back in '98. This was a big show for us ... we were very hopeful that Siouxsie would put on a kickass show -- we were not prepared for the FUCKING AMAZING show that she treated us to. Here are a few pics of the amazing Goddess herself on stage:

I managed to take a lot of pics of last night's show ... many of them blurry, but there are some gems. Click HERE to see them all. I also managed to shoot a short vid clip of Siouxsie performing the Beatles hit song Dear Prudence:

The setlist was spectacular ... she performed all by one of the songs off her solo album Mantaray and threw in a few SaTB songs and her collabo song with Basement Jaxx. Here is the setlist from last night's show:

They Follow You
About to Happen
Here Comes the Day
Dear Prudence
Hong Kong
Night Shift
Drone Zone
Loveless
Heaven Alchemy
Sea of Tranquility
One Mile Below
Into a Swan

Encore

Nicotine Stain
Cish Cash

Encore 2

If It Doesn't Kill You

She revealed that she wanted to perform Hong Kong Garden (one of my fave SaTB songs ever) since last night was the 30th anniversary that the song was written. She said she performed Nicotine Stain for all those folks out there suffering from all the smoking bans going into effect. She revealed that she has started smoking again, saying, "I quit quitting." Folks, I kid you not, Siouxsie was spectacular. She was in the best form I think I've ever seen ... she looked amazing, she sounded amazing ... she was on fire. I understand that her ex-hubby Budgie and Debbie Harry were both in the audience last night ... so maybe that's why she was in top form. Honestly, I could care less why she was so stunning ... I was just happy that we were treated to such an amazing performance. Diana and I couldn't be more pleased ... we were just thrilled.

Here are a few more pics from last night:

I have to say hey to the Pink readers that I got to meet last night ... Diane, Joelle and Anne Marie (pictured above) ... it was my pleasure meeting you all ... and much love goes to Anne Marie's friend Sarah who I wasn't able to meet last night.

Afterwards we grabbed some food and then chilled at David's place. This morning we ventured out for a great brunch in SoHo at Cabana Cafe. Diana has already left for home ... and later on tonight, David and I are going to see a preview performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Wee ... tomorrow morning I'm having coffee with a special someone ... deets on that soon! I hope y'all had a great weekend ... I'm out :)
