The Sweetest Goodbye

Before we get things going today, I have send out HUGE congrats to Pink reader Meg Frost who won the Pink is the new Header contest sponsored by Herbal Essences and Pink is the new Blog. We had Pink readers put their graphic design skills to the test to come up with a pink banner to replace the usual sparkle bar for a day. There were so many amazing entries but my panel of judges (Sarah and Jim) and I all agreed that we liked Meg's header the best. I've decided to leave the banner up for the full weekend. Because there were so many great entries, I had to pick a few extras as Honorable Mentions and they will be posted at the end of today's post. Congrats again, Meg! Thank you all so much for playing :)

Okay ... so the Gods must've been listening to my desperate pleas for Britney Spears to fix up her style a little bit because she was snapped out and about yesterday in LA lookin' pretty damn cute in her little vest/hat ensemble. Whoever is responsible for putting her together like this deserves a medal ... she looks great! Here are pictures of Britney and cousin Allie perusing a few vehicles at a friendly neighborhood Smart Car auto dealership here in LA:

Now, I have ZERO idea why Britney is shopping for a new car at a mom and pop auto dealership like this instead of going to some fancy import shop in Beverly Hills but you gotta give her props for keepin' it real. There is nothing wrong with being frugal, right? Whatevs, it is a bit strange. I think she should head over to Kevin Federline's place and take one of his whips ... that is if he hasn't sold them off already. [Source]

In marginally related Britney news, music svengali Lou Pearlman - the man behind the huge success of both Backstreet Boys and *NSync (and was friendly with Britney when she started her career) - was arrested in Indonesia earlier this week and has already been transported to Guam. Authorities are planning to ship his ass back to Florida where he will face charges of financial tomfoolery. Ten years ago, Lou was enjoying the spoils of all the hard work done by his boy band flunkees and now he's chillin' in jail awaiting extradition to face federal charges. My, how the mighty hve fallen:

Lou Pearlman, who faces one felony count of bank fraud in Florida, appeared in federal court Friday and was held over for another hearing next week. Pearlman, who created the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, refused to answer questions about his financial assets, which would determine whether he should be granted a public defender. U.S. District Chief Judge Frances Tydincgo-Gatewood then halted the proceedings until Monday. The boy-band mogul was remanded to the custody of U.S. marshals and sent to the federal detention area of the Guam prison. Pearlman, who was also involved in other business ventures, had been sought for months. He was expelled by Indonesia as an "undesirable visitor" and turned over to the FBI, which brought him to the territory of Guam to face the U.S. justice system. He was apprehended at a hotel on the resort island of Bali, the FBI said Thursday. "We expect that he will be returned to Florida," said Steve Cole, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa. Pearlman also faces lawsuits and two involuntary bankruptcy proceedings. He hasn't responded to court subpoenas and doesn't have an attorney in either of the bankruptcy cases. Banks are hounding Pearlman and his many companies for more than $120 million, according to bankruptcy court documents. Uh oh ... sounds like homie was trying to be slick by skipping out on his debtors for the sunny shores of Indonesia ... too bad his scheme didn't work out as planned. He should've gone to Dubai like Michael Jackson did. Well, it looks like it's time for Lou Pearlman to finally pay the piper. I wonder if any of his boy band proteges will wanna step in and help a brutha out. [Source]

In happier news, Barbara Walters was honored with the 2,340th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony yesterday afternoon. Sandwiched between Ryan Seacrest's star and Destiny's Child's star in front of the Kodak Theater at Hollywood and Highland, Wawa joked that she is now "hip and hot". Yeah, uh huh. Anyways, here are a few pictures from her star ceremony:

Talk about odd bedfellows. Barbara Walters was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The TV newswoman's star on the sidewalk in front of the Kodak Theatre is between those for Ryan Seacrest and Destiny's Child. "This strange alignment makes me hip and hot," Walters quipped during a ceremony attended by her "The View" co-hosts Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Other well-wishers included Police Chief William Bratton, Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Bob Iger, and Kathy and Nicky Hilton. The ceremony came a day before the Daytime Emmys, in which Walters is nominated as both a host and producer of "The View." I dunno if hanging with either Seacrest or D. Child can really make Ms. Walters hip or hot but this recognition seems long overdue -- especially when you take into consideration that Barbara has been working in broadcast news for decades and she is just now getting her own star ... after Ryan Seacrest and Destiny's Child got theirs. Hmm, what an honor, indeed. [Source]

Anyways, Kathy and Nicky Hilton were both on hand for Barbara's star ceremony (after all, the Hiltons are such BFFs with Barbara Walters) which is actually quite an accomplishment for them. The Hiltons are having such a difficult time now that the most famous Hilton of them all, Paris, is in jail ... the agonizing suffering is practically harder on poor Nicky than it is on Paris. But she managed to keep herself together for Barbara's sake ... after all, it was the least she could do:

Kathy Hilton and daughter Nicky are still reeling from their visits to Paris in jail, they tell PEOPLE. "It's tough. It is," said Kathy, who saw her daughter on Tuesday. "It's just one hour a week: 30 minutes on Sunday and 30 minutes on Tuesday. We talk through glass. And this one" – gesturing to Nicky – "left in hysterics," Kathy added. "Nicky tried to keep the brave face but – I never see Nicky cry." Nicky and her mother spoke to PEOPLE on Thursday after attending family friend Barbara Walters's ceremony to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Interviewed at a private luncheon, Nicky described her visit to the jail on Sunday as surreal. "It's sad. It's like right out of the movies," she said. "The glass partition, the orange jumpsuit. Everything." Nicky spoke of what she saw as the unfairness in Paris's case. "What's annoying is all these people are going on television saying that she was drinking and driving," said Nicky. "She's not in jail for DUI. That's a big misconception. She's in jail for driving on a suspended license, just like the D.A.'s wife was. ... She got a $186 fine" ... Kathy Hilton reiterated Paris's statement that she will not fight her sentence, which could end as early as June 25. "There are no appeals – as Paris said. But the point is that I hope this will shine a light on everybody (in those jails). That's the positive," said Kathy. The jails, she said, "need financial help, and it's very sad to see what's going on in there." Kathy adds: "I always believe that where there's a negative there's a positive. And I feel that maybe this whole ordeal can shed light on other people, and that really maybe everybody should be treated exactly the same. I don't care who you are. As Paris said, she's just going to do her time and try to make the best of it, and hopefully" – she paused, chocking back emotion – "I always believe there's a reason for everything." So brave ... so very brave. Hang in there Nicky child, your suffering will be over soon. Forget Paris, I think we should be praying for Nicky Hilton from now on. [Source, Source]

In somewhat sad news for the people of Spain, David Beckham gave a press conference yesterday afternoon in Madrid to say his goodbyes to the Real Madrid fans and to the people of Spain in general. Becks also made sure to talk about how excited he is to be coming to America to play for the LA Galaxy (tho, I'm sure he's not excited as I am that he's coming ... but I'm digressing). Here are a couple pics of Becks at his press conference yesterday:

David Beckham has no regrets about leaving Real Madrid and is relishing the challenge of trying to raise the profile of soccer in the United States when he continues his career with MLS side LA Galaxy. "I've had 15 years playing top flight football for Real Madrid and Manchester United, but I'm moving on to a new challenge," Beckham told a news conference ahead of his final game for the nine-times European champions on Sunday. "It will be rewarding as hopefully I can take football, or 'soccer' as they call it in America, to another level. I'm excited about that and I'm ready for the challenge." Beckham said he opted to move to the U.S. only after Real failed to make him a convincing contract renewal offer but insisted he was not having second thoughts about playing in a lower standard league. "Everyone knows the level of football is different in America," he said. "But my decision was to sign for the LA Galaxy and I'm very honoured that they signed me. Hindsight is a strange thing .... But I had to make a decision when I was told I was leaving the club at the end of the season ... I said before that I would finish my career at Real Madrid, but I also thought I'd never leave Manchester United. So things change in football, things change in life. I've made a decision now and I don't regret it." See ... this is what people get for not appreciating the wonder that is David Beckham. If you take him for granted you may lose him. Their loss is our gain ... and I hope that he stays in LA Forever ... at my house ... well, not really at my house cuz that sounds a bit stalkerish ... not that I would turn him away from my doorstep but you see what I'm trying to say. [Source]

Here is a very cute video of David Beckham saying his goodbyes to the good people of Spain in surprisingly beuno espagnol (much more bueno than my espganol is):

El Sigh. I'm sure the Spaniards are gonna miss him ... but I promise, we'll take good care of him. Becks plays his last game with Real Madrid this Sunday. [Source, gracias Jahlone]

While Becks was breaking hearts in Madrid, his wife Victoria Beckham was taking New York City by storm. She started off the day with a nice little walk thru Central Park with about 500 of her closest media friends ...

... chief among them, NBC's Matt Lauer who interviewed her for a bit for probable use on the Today Show or on her upcoming NBC reality TV series special. She looked so lovely and natural in that peach outfit ... well, as natural as plastic can appear. [Source]

Later on in the day, VB made a sensational appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue department store for the launch of her dVb fashion line of jeans and sunglasses:

I gotta admit, the robotic one does know how to look fierce for the cameras. She really does make an amazing mannequin. [Source]

Later still in the day, VB went out on the town to carry on the celebrations, donning a dress that gives one a peek at the sides of her boobs and of her wrist tattoo presumably devoted to her hubby:

These 2 things are a bit strange ... the weird dress I kinda get cuz she wears weird shizz all the time. But I don't get why the tattoo is upside down on her wrist. If she's looking at it, the letters are upside down. Could this be a design flaw? Will this model VB (the XENON X500) robot have to be scrapped in order for a replacement? Hmm ... [Source]

Elsewhere in NYC, Brad Pitt was going about his day running this or that errand with his newest child Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt along for the ride ... but not before swinging by the International Pediatric Center so that the doctor's could take a look at little Pax. I bet someone inside the medical office tipped off the press because father and son emerged to a throng of paparazzi:

Little Pax doesn't look any worse for the wear ... the doctor visit must've been a smooth one. Is it me or is that little boy just getting cuter and cuter by the day? [Source]

While Brad was running Pax all over town, Angelina Jolie was keeping herself bizzy by pressing the flesh with her faithful followers:

Geeze, I half expected to find a picture of Saint Angie performing a laying on of hands in order to heal a leper or two. Can someone tell me why she isn't a saint yet? [Source]

Here in LA, John Mayer was snapped at a local gas station filling up his car ... and, horror of horrors, he was seen wearing the the most monstrously hideous fashion no-no EVER CREATED -- the manpris:

Johnny boy, I have just two words for you regarding this fashion statement: Poop sandwich. Nice haircut, tho. [Source]

Perhaps John can take fashion cues from someone like Cristiano Ronaldo (or as I affectionately like to refer to him, David Beckham Light). Here are pictures of Cristiano at the CR7 Fashion Show on Madira Island in Portugal earlier this week:

While I'm not exactly feelin' the yellow leather jacket (which looks like something Cher would wear in Clueless) I must give the boy snaps for his brave use of the Louis Vuitton man bag. Cristiano is deffo hot but I don't think his profile is his best side. [Source]

Here is an amazing photo of Tori Amos as she performed at the Norwegian Wood Festival in Oslo, Norway:

Say what you will about the Solid Gold dancer jumpsuit, at least she is owning it. Hot! [Source, thanks Solveig]

The Tudors will be coming back to Showtime for a second season and here is your first look at Jonathan Rhys Meyers's new look on the show:

Even with those deranged-looking eyes, JRM is way hot. I think I like the facial hair, there is something a little dirty/sexy about it. [Source]

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the newly revamped Batman suit as will be featured in The Dark Knight next summer:

THIS article reveals a few of the new tweaks added to the costume (at last, Batman can turn his head!) none of which include nipples -- thank the Gods above. [Source]

Pink reader Mark who hails from Chicago sends in these cool photos of the Gotham City Police Department vehicles from the set of The Dark Knight which is currently filming down the block from his apartment. Also, I'm including a picture (not sent in by Mark) that is supposedly the Joker's car:

Despite the fact that the movie crew is a "huge pain in the ass" to deal with parking-wise, Mark assures me it is very cool having the new Batman movie being made right down the street. He was told that they will be filming there thru Saturday. Hopefully he'll be able to see some other cool Batman things. As for the Joker car, who knows if it's real or not. I wouldn't be surprised either way. [thanks Mark]

And finally, here is a bit of UBER HOTNESS to get the weekend started off right. Check out these insanely amazing photos of Scott Caan shirtless on the beach, courtesy of Jake's Boy:

Hot damn, yes please! Not a bad way to head into the weekend. Enjoy!! [Source]

Les News:
So the Herbal Essences/Pink is the new Blog header contest is over and Meg has been deemed the winner. Her banner was supposed to adorn the blog for a single day but I've decided to leave it up for the rest of the weekend. There were so many amazing entries, I really loved all of them to tell the truth. Even tho I did have to pick one winner there are 3 more entries and I really want to highlight. I love these banners because they incorporate some of my favorite things:

Click above to see the banners in full-size

Nate Celnik made the Buffy-inspired banner, Danielle Newton made the banner with all my fave celebs and Kelly Boege made the banner with the three troubled Hollywood "It" Girls. Again, I must thank everyone who participated in this fun little contest!!!

Yesterday afternoon I was very fortunate enough to tour the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. I was invited to the studios by a great guy named Michael who wanted to talk a bit of shop while he showed me around the place:

I got to see some really fun things, like a soundstage that was used for filming National Treasure II and Walt Disney's actual office. I also got to visit the Disney Archives and was actually to touch Charlie's shoes and Jack's shirt from Lost. I got to see fun stuff like the play blocks from Mary Poppins, Hilary Duff's boots from the Lizzie Maguire Movie and Lindsay Lohan's helmet from her movie Herbie: Fully Loaded among many other things. I had an amazing time. Michael and I spent hours touring and talking ... it was really fun.

Tonight I *might* be able to do something really fun ... but I don't want to jinx it. I'll have full deets tomorrow if it comes thru.

Happy Weekend, ya'll ... I hope it's a good one! I'm out.
