Own The World
Vanity Fair will auction off the one-of-a-kind globe featured with Madonna on the cover of the May Green Issue and signed by her, along with two tickets to a very special performance by Madonna in New York City at the end of April. All proceeds will benefit Raising Malawi, a charity committed to revitalizing the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Malawi, Africa. The May issue marks Madonna's 10th appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair. Shot by photographer Steven Meisel, she is pictured leaning against the globe, which is four feet in diameter and weighs approximately eighty pounds. The inspiration for the image came to editor Graydon Carter from a midcentury fashion-magazine cover, and Vanity Fair's fashion and style director, Michael Roberts, sketched several images, channeling not just the fashion cover but also the work of Czech photographer Frantisek Drtikol from the 20s. The orb was suspended from the ceiling during the photo shoot at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles on February 21, 2008. Following the shoot, Madonna signed the globe and drew a heart over Africa. Bidders may go to VanityFair.com to be connected to eBay where they may bid on the globe and the tickets. Bidding begins today and will end on April 18. The event is being managed on eBay Giving Works, eBay's dedicated program for charity listings, by Auction Cause, a premier online auction management agency specializing in high-profile design, strategy, and cause marketing for corporations and nonprofits worldwide. For more information, please visit AuctionCause.com
The package includes

*accommodation for two nights at N.Y.C.’s Bowery Hotel
*dinner at Gemma—one of Manhattan’s hottest restaurants

The Hills: Frenemies
I realize that I missed recapping The Hills last week but with all the TV show taping I was doing with Kylie, I just didn't find the time to do my duty. Apologies. But, I did watch last week's eps as well as last night's eps and I did manage to jot down a few thoughts. For the most part, tho, the excitement isn't what I expected it to be considering what the hell is going on on the show:
The big development in last week's eps was twofold ... first, Whitney got fed up with Teen Vogue (and more prolly editor Lisa Love's bald spot) and left the mag to go work for something called People's Revolution ... which is run (at least on TV) by a ball-breaking, stressed out woman who looks like the living incarnation of the lady bus driver on South Park (all that is missing is the bird's nest in her hair). Whitney managed to keep her facial expressions in check and impressed her new boss ... natch. In Speidiland, it turned out that Spencer's sister got all cozy with Lauren LC Conrad since the ladies were in the same computer class at design school. Against all arguments on both sides, the ladies became fast friends ... cut to this week when LC invited the She-Spencer to her birthday party with her closest friends (I don't think that even Brody showed up for her party). Talk about sleeping with the enemy. Lo voiced her concern that She-Spencer wasn't to be trusted (cuz Lo rules the world) but ... LC thinks she's a "nice person". Hmmm. I don't trust the She-Spencer either but I'm tolerating this friendliness in the hopes that a huuuuuge betrayal is in the works. Heidi and Spencer each have their own issues with his new friendship ... but they've got other problems of their own. Heidi threw Spencer out of her apartment, making him come for his crap ... on camera, of course. This, folks, is a feminist hero in action. I'm sure next week she'll be freaking out as any feminist hero would when she sees her ex-boyfriend flirting with other women. The second ep wasn't all that interesting ... the fallout from LC's burgeoning friendship with She-Spencer continued (hopefully, they won't be beating that dead horse much longer, I want juicier storylines ... can we get to the backstabbing already?) and LC lamented the loss of Whitney from Teen Vogue. I almost cried at the shot of Whitney's empty desk. But then I had to realize that I was making myself cry by thinking about what she had done. Sniff. While these storyline developments are pretty major, they aren't really playing out as salaciously as I had hoped. I hope things spice up next week. All this getting along is boring me to death.

The TV Guide: Couple's Night Out
Tonight, we're meeting up with our friends Gillian and Lisa for dinner (I haven't seen Lisa in ages ... we were all actually together in NYC at SoHo House when word broke that Paris Hilton got sentenced to jail time) so I'm very much looking forward to seeing them both. It's a beautiful day, I can't wait to get out and enjoy it.

Kiefer's Lady Jets To London

It really looks like love is agreeing with Kiefer ... Siobhan is already having a fashionable effect on the man. Notice that Kiefer is carrying a clutch manpurse along with his sassy scarf. Now, I know that Kiefer is a man's man so Siobhan must be giving it up good if she's resorted to carrying a clutch at her suggestion. Ain't lurve grand? [Source]

The Minogue Sisters Take On Cancer
A doctor mistakenly gave Kylie Minogue the all clear when she actually had breast cancer, the Australian singer told Ellen DeGeneres Monday. A nervous-looking Minogue told DeGeneres that she had never publicly discussed the misdiagnosis before, but was inspired to speak out after an earlier guest on the show, U.S. presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton, emphasized how vital early breast cancer detection is. "Listen, this is an opportunity for me to say something that I have not said before," said Minogue when DeGeneres asked her about her own battle with the illness two years ago. "I was misdiagnosed initially. So my message to all of you and everyone at home is, because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn't necessarily mean they are right." Though Minogue did not reveal the date of the error, where it took place or how long she went before she got a second opinion correctly diagnosing her illness, she said it happened before her 2005 Showgirl concert tour. "If you have any doubt, go back again," urged Minogue, who is currently in remission ... "I had no intention of [talking about the misdiagnosis] today," said Minogue to DeGeneres. "But with what you were talking about before, I didn't realize it was a subject so close to your heart as well."
From what I understand, Kylie really had no intention of talking about her misdiagnosis on The Ellen DeGeneres Show but I think it's amazing that she did. I know that so many people take their doctor's word at face value without considering for a moment that they might be wrong every once in a while. From the way that Kylie explained her situation, it sounds like she was given the all-clear before she started her Showgirl Tour only to get sick while out on tour and finding out that she did, in fact, have breast cancer. I think it makes absolute sense to get a second opinion no matter what the circumstance. It is better to be safe than sorry. Being proactive is the way to go. [Source]
And speaking of proaction, Kylie's little sister Dannii Minogue has signed on to participate in The Great Walk to Beijing 2008 which is a 21-day extreme challenge to walk all the way to the Great Wall of China in order to help Olivia Newton-John raise money to build cancer awareness and research centers around the world to help find a cure. Kylie posted a message on her official website urging fans to donate money for Dannii's participation:
Kylie's sister Dannii is taking part in 'The Great Walk To Beijing', an event organised by Olivia Newton-John to raise money to change the way cancer is treated by building a global model for patient focused cancer care and research - The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre. Olivia will lead a team of stars from sports and showbiz, along with everyday survivors of cancer, in a 21-day extreme challenge to trek along the Great Wall of China from 7th April 2008. Their million steps journey symbolizes the cancer patient's journey - with extreme physical and emotional challenges. Dannii is part of Team UK and she will join the walk for Stages 2 and 3 from 13-16th April. Click HERE for details on how you can sponsor Dannii and raise money for this worthwhile cause.
I have already made a donation for Dannii and I hope that all y'all will do the same. This sounds like such an impressive way to raise money for cancer research, I think it's worthwhile to make a donation for this great cause. Again, click HERE to make a donation and to sign up for updates as the Great Walk makes its way to China.

Pleas Mischa, Don't Hurt 'Em
Mischa Barton will accept a plea deal in her DUI case, sparing her any jail time, a source tells PEOPLE. The former O.C. star will plead no contest to DUI at her arraignment Thursday in Beverly Hills court, and agree to serve a three-year unsupervised probation term, the source says. Barton will also be sentenced to a three-month alcohol-education class, and pay a fine of approximately $1,700. In addition, a marijuana possession charge against the actress will be dropped, due to the small amount found. Another charge of driving without a license will be reduced to an infraction, according to the source. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office would not comment on the case. The terms of the plea deal, negotiated by Barton's lawyer Anthony V. Salerno, are expected to be signed off on by the court Thursday. Such a deal is common for first-time offenders.
And with this plea deal, Mischa Barton becomes the latest Hollywood "It" Girl to get busted for drunk driving AND NOT have to endure a jail sentence ... leaving Paris Hilton as the only Hollywood socialite to have that distinction. In fact, we are closing in on the 1-year anniversary of Paris's incarceration ... ah, memories. Well, good for Mischa for working the system to her advantage ... hopefully she's learned her lesson and she'll stay out of trubs and will stop endangering the lives of others with her intoxication. Hangin' With Mr. Ventimiglia
To be honest, I love posting pics of Milo no matter what he's doing. If he were reading the phone book and someone took a pic, BAM! I'd post it. Thankfully these photos are just of him looking hawt holding a snowboard and boot cuz at least they're a wee bit interesting. I'm more intrigued by the experience of getting to shop with Milo ... sounds like fun. I wonder how I can get in on that action too. [thanks Veronicia]

Kristin Bell Does LA Direct Magazine
In the accompanying interview, Kristin talks at length about her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the hijinks that come along with starring in a Judd Apatow comedy ... but she also talks about her ideal guy ("I think kindness is really important. I think it's a big turn-off for most girls if you're rude to the waiter -- something my mom taught me when I was growing up. If you're rude to the waiter, I just shut off."), the difficulty of dating in Hollywood ("You got to have standards of being a human being. Too often in Hollywood that's ignored because people are given so much. It's hard not to get deluded as an actor. Everybody's nice to you. Everybody kisses your ass because they need you to stay happy in order to complete the film.") and the strains of living with the paparazzi ("That's such a strange, strange business. They park outside my house a couple days a week. But, let me stress -- it's not something I believe in asking sympathy for, because it's definitely what you sign up for."). The interview is a pretty good one and it can be read in its entirety HERE. But I was most taken in by the amazing photos ... Kristin really does look amazing in these pics. I love them. [Source]

Awww ... I love it! They all look so happy :) I am so happy for Britney Spears right now ... her life has been in order for some time now and she seems to continue to make positive progress in her life. At the rate she is progressing, I'm sure she'll be allowed to have her children stay with her for longer periods of time, which is something I'm sure she's been hoping to enjoy for some time now. Congrats, Britters ... keep on stayin' out of trubs and you'll get more time like this with your boys fo' shizz. [Source]

Disbanded

On Saturday, the day after the alleged nuptials took place, Jay was spotted with something on his finger that sorta resembled a wedding ring ... but yesterday afternoon, on the streets of NYC, Jay was deffo not wearing a ring at all. Does this mean that the couple really didn't get married? Or, could B-Jay be playing coy with the media in the hopes of keeping official confirmation of their marriage under wraps? At this point, there is more circumstantial evidence that the couple got married than to the contrary ... I still did it ... despite Jay-Z's ringlessness. [Source]

Paging Nanny 911

Clearly, Geri was in no position to discipline her child in front of the paparazzi so she was forced to just endure the torture unleashed upon her by the unruly Bluebell. The good news is that her bratty behavior makes for a whole slew of amazingly entertaining photos, 36 of them to be exact, which can be seen in their entirety HERE at the Bauer-Griffin blog. Hahahhaha ... enjoy!! [Source]
