D'Oh-MG!
I can't help but feel the effects of this change in celebrity watching. Don't get me wrong, I know full well that celebs have been getting away with murder (as it were) for years without having to suffer the consequences and that all these DUI arrests and failed stints in rehab are nothing new at all. But with the emergence of the ever-present, unblinking eye of the Internet (via bloggers especially) there seems to be a sea change that makes all those clandestine crimes come to light in such a way that punishment has to come down on the once untouchable celebrity. I'm convinced that 10 years ago (maybe even 5 years ago) we would've never heard about all these DUI incidents that have occurred in the past year -- and surely there would've been no jail sentences. Now, we've got celebs going to jail left and right ... it's strange. No ... it's sad -- when the topic of conversation goes from poor fashion choices one day to legnths of jail sentences the next, there is obvs something wrong with the world. I wonder what the outcome of OJ Simpson's murder trial would've been if TMZ were around to disseminate every minutia of detail (EXCLUSIVE! OJ GET JUICED -- KATO KALIN SPILLS ALL TO TMZ) from day one? Yeah, pardon the pontification but I've just been thinking about how strange it is that both Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (with Lindsay Lohan not far behind) have been sentenced to serve jail time when just a couple of years ago it seemed unfathomable to me that any of these ladies would ever be held accountable for anything. In other courtroom drama, Dina Lohan brought along her elderly mother to court yesterday for the child custody and support hearing she is involved in with her estranged ex-hubby Michael Lohan. Something tells me that Grandma has been itchin' to get in on the action for some time now. What? Lindsay and Dina shouldn't be the only ones to get in on the fun:

Regarding her troubled daughter, Dina was pretty conservative on the information she doled out to the reporters hounding her for details. All she would say is that Lindsay is "safe ... she is okay". But a family friend was more generous with the details saying that Lindsay is still in LA and that she hasn't lost any work due to her recent troubles. I really hope that Lindsay is getting the help she needs and that she really takes the time she has now to seriously consider where she wants her life to go ... August 24 is going to come really quickly and it might not be long after her next court date that she finds herself locked away behind bars. [Source]
In non-judicial, very undramatic news ... David Beckham was spotted feeding his coffee addiction at his favorite Coffee Bean coffee shop yesterday morning:
Yeah, I realize that these pictures aren't all that exciting ... but it's Becks and I'm still trying to level off my excitement that he is living here in LA now. Le sigh. [Source]
In slightly more interesting news, Lauren LC Conrad and Brody Jenner have been spending quite a lot of time together again these days ... here are pictures of BC as they made their way out together from the opening party for the newest LA hot spot Opera:
While I'm not entirely sure they've fully gotten back together, they really do look awfully friendly towards one another. It's always nice to hang on to your friends with benefits. I suppose all of this fraternizing that is going on between these two will make more sense when we get to see the upcoming new season of The Hills. [Source]
Lance Bass is in a celebratin' mood these days ... homie is happily marking the anniversary of his coming out of the closet -- which I love! Here is the full text of Lance's latest blog post on his My Space profile marking the occasion:
Happy Anniversary!!!!!....
TO ME!!!!!!!
So it was a year ago that I decided to let the world know who I really am... and I swear it has been the most amazing experience. Scary at times, but in the end the best thing I have ever done. I want to thank everyone that has been so supportive and showing that this world has and will continue to change in the right direction. With the election coming up, it is even more important that we stand up for what we believe in and be heard. Environment, war, civil rights, education ... the list goes on and on. I encourage everyone to learn more this year about ALL the issues that need attention. Some of you will actively be heard and support some issues, and others will just be educated -- in the end all that matters is we all are going to have a hand in changing this world for the better!
Also as an Anniversary gift for me ... think about doing this ...
If you are having trouble being yourself, and are scared to tell someone you are gay--- find that loyal friend, family member, or even hotline and tell someone. All it takes is to tell one person and the ball starts rolling. You will get great advice and be so much happier. Or, if you have always wanted to ask that family member or friend if they were gay... do it now ... in a very positive and private way, tell them it is ok and you will always be there no matter what. Sometimes its easier for someone to just flat out ask you. To build the courage to say it sometimes takes years.
It's 2007 people, there is no reason we should not be exactly who we want to be- sexual preference, profession, religion, etc. Just respect the fact that everyone is different and live your own lives the way you want! It's good to be alive and we can do and achieve anything we want!
So go do something positive, nice, fun, or just laugh ... it doesn’t affect just you ... it catches on!
Have a good one!! LB
What a great message for Lance to put out on this happy occasion. I'm sure there are many people that will laugh or poke fun at his post but I choose to celebrate his happiness and his sentiments. There is absolutely no good reason why everyone shouldn't enjoy the same happiness no matter who they are. Kudos to Lance for taking the time to make his thoughts on the matter public so that perhaps at least one person can take his advice and hopefully change their life for the better. Happy Anniversary, Lance! [Source]
Pretty much every person will geek-like tendencies is down in San Diego this weekend for the 2007 Comic Con going on right now. Each year, Comic Con highlights the upcoming projects in comics, TV, movies, toys, etc. in such grand fashion that it is not to be missed. That being said, I annually chose to skip out on the Con because the thought of having to tussle with the hordes of fanatics kinda doesn't sound very fun to me (plus, I've never been one to fancy dressing up in costume). But I'm sure that a great many people are having the times of their lives since more and more big name celebs (well, "big" might be stretching it a bit) are making their way to Comic Con to court the eager fan. Here are a few pics of some of the celebs who showed up to Comic Con already this year:
Honestly, if Christian Bale, Heath Ledger or Maggie Gyllenhaal had been added to the ticket this year, I might've gone down at least for one day. I am very anxious for any new information on their new movie The Dark Knight ... but, as I understand it, there really wasn't much offered on the movie at Comic Con this year. [Source]
In fact, all the new The Dark Knight info happened online yesterday instead. The ball got rolling at Comic Con but it exploded on the Interweb. One lucky person received an interesting dollar bill which led to a website (whysoserious.com) which led to a game, which led to the first teaser trailer for the new movie:
As soon as the site was discovered, rabid fans got to deciphering the clues which led to the final prize of the teaser trailer ...
... which you can watch in full here:
Er, you really can't see anything but at least we get to hear what Heath Ledger sounds like as The Joker and this far in advance of the movie's release, I'm quite happy with all the fun tidbits we've gotten on the movie so far. [Source, Source, Source, Source, thanks Rob]
In other comics-to-movies news, here are pictures of the car that Tony Stark aka Iron Man will be driving in the new Iron Man movie starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow:
I also threw in a new poster of Iron Man that has been released at Comic Con this year. While this Audi might not be as sexy as, say, the Batmobile I wouldn't mind having one of my own :) [Source, Source]
Here is our first look at the new poster artwork for the new Tim Burton directed movie version of Sweeney Todd starring Johnny Depp:
As you may or may not know, Sweeney Todd tells the take of a serial killer barber who loves to murder his victims with a straight razor and who's girlfriend loves to turn the murdered bodies into meat pies -- which of course has been turned into a hit musical and will find new life as a big screen adaptation ... perfect for a new Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collabo, I think. And finally, it's time for this week's batch of photos sent in by Pink is the new Blog readers -- Angi sends in a pic of her 15-year old son on the happy occasion that he got his driver's permit -- Dani sends in a pic taken by her BFF Grace from her 18th birthday party -- Meghan and Amy send in a pic with their pink mugs from their recent trip to El Salvador -- Halley and Rachael who have been living in Paris, France on an exchange program from the University of Washington send in a pic from their recent trip to the Dead Sea in Israel -- fellow Detroiter Amanda who is now living in Boston, MA sends in a cute pic of her puggle Jersey:
Congrats, love and thanks to you all for your fun pictures. As always, it is so much fun receiving all of these amazing pictures from all over the globe on a weekly basis. Altho I get so many and cannot possibly post them all, I do look at and save each and everyone of them for possible blog inclusion. A few industrious Pink readers have started posting their pictures in the comments on my My Space profile -- which I think is a great idea :) Thank you sooo much for taking the time to include PITNB in your fun activities :) XOXO

And it is will EXTREME PLEASURE that I can report that The Simpsons Movie rocks balls! It is really, really great. All Simpsons fans can take heart that this movie will not fail to entertain. They whipped out every trick in the book to create a movie-going experience that will keep you laughing from beginning to end. The whole audience pretty much laughed out loud at every joke, one after the other for the duration of the movie. I really don't want to spoil any of the surprises but I will say that there were 3 very surprising things that happen or are shown in this movie that would never get shown on the TV show. I will never look at Bart Simpson the same ever again. The one thing missing from the movie was a cameo from Kang and Kodos, the aliens -- pretty much everyone else who ever showed up in Springfield is in the movie, why not those two? But honestly, as far as complaints go, this ain't nuthin' ... go see this movie and laugh your ass off. It's really that fun.
Here are a few pics that we took last night at the Arc Light bar:
Angela and Darion kinda get all creey-weird when they're together ... Shelby and I tried not to notice. I became the floating head in the group shot ... but really, it was only cuz I was trying to nuzzle up against Shelby and Darion. I had so much fun with Darion's friends that I hope to, one day, steal them away from him so that they'll be ALLL MINE!
Tonight Mike and I have plans to drive down to the Real OC for dinner and whathaveyou ... but not before I finish my book. So, I'm out.
