The Last Stop

Today's post is going to be a tad shorter since Sarah and I have a Detroit-bound plane to catch later on this afternoon. We've been having the best past few days with all the Toriness and such. So ... let's get to the day's goss and get the week started off right.

So, I did not recap this season of Survivor on the blog but I've been a pretty avid fan since the beginning of the series. Survivor makes a great Thursday night show that is consistently entertaining and usually very surprising. I think it's safe to say that this season's winner was that big of a surprise. I was pretty sure that if the person in question made it to the final 3 than they would be walking home with a cool $1 million bucks (before taxes). Early on, tho, I wasn't quite sure that this person was gonna make it to the end ... but excellent planning and masterful strategy paved the way to the title of the Ultimate Survivor for Todd Herzog:

All that studying paid off. Todd Herzog, a longtime fan of Survivor, won the CBS reality show's $1 million prize after 39 days of lying and scheming. "I wasn't the strongest. I wasn't the smartest," Herzog said during the finale. "But I was definitely the most strategic." The 22-year-old flight attendant from Pleasant Grove, Utah, bested his Survivor: China allies Courtney Yates, a 26-year-old waitress from New York, and Amanda Kimmel, a 23-year-old hiking guide and former beauty queen from Los Angeles. Herzog won the 15th edition of Survivor with four votes against Yates' two and Kimmel's one. He's the youngest winner in the show's history. "I knew that the second that I got out there that, no matter what it took, I would do everything that I possibly could to be sitting right here," Herzog said after the votes were revealed. That meant teaming up with Kimmel on the first day of the competition and aligning himself with both weaker and stronger players to deflect any attention away from himself. "I can't believe it worked," he said. None of the opposing Zhan Hu tribe members was able to penetrate Herzog's alliance with Kimmel, Yates and fourth-place finisher Denise Martin, a 40-year-old janitor from Douglas, Mass. I'm not sure that I would call Survivor: China the best season of all but it was pretty fun to watch from week to week. I think that Todd absolutely deserved to win the million bucks ... he played the game pretty flawlessly. He knew how to keep his alliance together and he knew when to dole out bits of control to others in order to ensure that his overall control could stay intact. I'm just amazed that a 22-year old scheming conniver was able to mastermind the entire game from day 1. I kept waiting for the other contestants to wise up and vote him off ... but it never happened and his perfect overall plan played itself out perfectly. As a side note, I think I saw Todd at the first LA show that the Spice Girls did last week. I think Darion and I passed him in the corridor and I actually stopped to see if it was really him but I didn't go back to ask. Something tells me that it's not outside the realm of possibility that a 22-year old male flight attendant might be a fan of the Spice Girls. I suppose congratulations are in order for James the grave digger who won the $100,000. fan favorite prize -- I dunno why he was a favorite among viewers, I found him really gullible and very stupid for trusting the word of his competitors over deciding to use the TWO immunity idols he had in his possession. My vote for fan favorite was Peih-Gee. She was a strong player who lasted as long as she possibly could ... longer than she was supposed to due to her ability to win a couple of immunity challenges. She got screwed a couple of times by Denise, the mullet-loving lunch lady, so I would've liked to see her win the fan favorite money. You gotta love that producers of the show decided to dole out $50k to Denise and her family since she lost her job as the lunch lady at her school because she was on the show. As I said, it wasn't the most amazing season ever but it kept me entertained from day one. Congrats Todd!! [Source]

Jessica Simpson is a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, y'all. Well, at least now that she's supposedly doing the nasty with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo she is. Jess got herself all dolled up in a pink-colored Dallas Cowboys jersey emblazoned with the number 9 on her ample chest in support of her new beau at the Cowboys vs. the Philadelphia Eagles football game yesterday afternoon which, unfortch, resulted in a loss for the Dallas team ... here are a few pics:

Jessica Simpson was certainly as glamorous as any Dallas Cheerleader Sunday night, with her perfectly coiffed hair and miniature Tony Romo jersey emblazoned with a pink number 9. But she wasn't exactly a good luck charm. Her new boyfriend struggled all game, throwing three interceptions and fumbling the ball twice as his heavily favored Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 10-6. At one point, the network even showed a montage of Simpson, 27, spliced with shots of Romo's bad throws. As commentator Joe Buck noted, "It's never easy to play in front of your girlfriend." That seems especially true for Romo. The 27-year-old Pro-Bowler ended the game with a quarterback rating of just 22.2 – that's the worst ever in his entire career. (In comparison, his average rating this year is over 100.) His previous low? Last December, when then-girlfriend Carrie Underwood was in the stands. Hahahhahaha! This shizz is priceless. I feel so bad for poor Tony ... I can understand how he might want to be dipping into Jessica Simpson's goodies but doesn't the lad realize that nothing good comes from getting involved with her romantically? It seems as if the gods blessed her with a ginormous chest and a beautiful face ... and then cursed her romantically. Hmm ... doesn't that sound like the plot of another horrible, straight-to-video movie that she could star in? I suspect that if Mr. Romo can't get his shizz straight in front of his lady love in future games, she is gonna get run out of town by all the Cowboys fans in Dallas. [Source]

David Beckham appeared on the finale show of Michael Parkinson's 26-year long talk show over the weekend and said goodbye to the illustrious interviewer by revealing to the world that he suffers from OCD. OMG, could Becks get any cuter? Not only is he perfect-looking but he's also flawed on the inside ... it's so precious. Here are a few screencaps from his appearance on the finale show:

David Beckham revealed the extent of his obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) on the last episode of Parkinson. In the finale of the host's enduring chat show, the former England captain said: "In our house in Spain we used to have this big rug that when you hoovered it, you could do it in lines like Wembley. "Victoria used to catch me after the kids had gone to bed doing the hoovering and it would all be in perfect lines." The former England captain also admits he shed a tear when he ended his run as skipper of the national team. "I remember waking up that morning and I cried as I knew what I had to do. I went into the press conference cried all the way down to it, got through it and cried all the way back to the hotel. But I have had a great career on the England side." Michael Parkinson ends his 26-year chat show career tonight with a two-hour programme featuring a host of celebrities ... Parkinson, 72, wears a party hat for the show and says interviewing 2,000 people has been a "great joy". At the end of the show, to be screened at 9pm on ITV1, he says: "Thanks to all of my guests and all of you at home for watching over the years." ... Parkinson will spend the first year of his retirement writing his autobiography." First off, much congrats goes out to Michael Parkinson on his very long and very successful career. He is truly a television legend who will be sorely missed now that he has gone off the air for the last time. While I would've been happier with Becks's appearance on the finale show had he revealed more than just his OCD (which I don't entirely understand ... why is Becks doing the vacuum cleaning anyway? Can't he just hire someone to Hoover the rug the way he likes it?), I think it's great that he got to appear on the final show at all. What a way for Parkie to go out ... with hot Becks by his side. Speaking of the hotness of Becks, new behind-the-scenes photos from the soon-to-be-legendary Armani Underwear photoshoot have been uncovered. Here are a few pics of Becks on set for the photoshoot, including the color version of the first David Beckham for Armani Underwear ad that was unleashed a week ago today:

Well, lookie there ... Becks does have some rockin' ab muscles to be proud of. I was a little unsure where the abs in the first pic came from (since we see him running around shirtless all the time and those abs never looked quite so defined) but seeing him walk onto the set with his shirt open and abs blazing seems to prove that he does have a ripped stomach (or, he did when he posed for these pics). OY! Can you imagine being the photographer chosen to work on this shoot? The job you get paid for is to take photos of David Beckham taking off his pants and showing off his underwear. Geeze, someone has the best karma ever. I guess we'll just have to content ourselves with enjoying the lovely pics that keep coming out :) [Source]

Ruh ro ... the ever-stable Amy Winehouse just found out that she is to be questioned by police over the charges that her husband, Blake Civil Fielder, attempted to pervert justice ... charges which have him locked up in jail right now. So, of course, Amy ventures out to seek comfort in the true love of her life ... the liquor bottle. Here are a couple of pics:

Amy Winehouse sought comfort in cocktails at 6am amidst reports she is set to be grilled by police over the charges against her husband. The Rehab singer spent the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by friends - and alcohol - at a London bar, later stopping off at a supermarket for supplies before heading home just before 7am. According to reports, she will be quizzed by authorities over their investigation into Blake Fielder-Civil, who is now in remand at North London's Pentonville prison on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The Mirror quoted a Scotland Yard source as saying: "We have no evidence against Amy being involved in any crime. If we had she would have been arrested straight away. But we do want to talk to her about matters, particularly financial ones, which may be important in this case." Her father Mitch told another newspaper: "Amy has to give DNA samples because of evidence that might be related to her or might not. But she will be able to continue with her plans of going on a holiday with her friends, which she is looking forward to." While his daughter's behaviour has become increasingly erratic, he denied reports the troubled star is suicidal. He said: "Amy is on the road to recover and there's no way she would consider that." Heh. Something tells me that Amy Winehouse prolly has enough skeletons in her closet that the prospect of having to speak to police about anything is enough to cause her great concern. Well, at least the girl is consistent ... she does her grocery shopping, her cigarette shopping, her junk food shopping AND her boozing all in the hours between 4 and 7 AM. Cheers to that! Please don't die, Amy. [Source]

I'm sure I have *no idea* what ever could've possessed Nicole Kidman to think that wearing this frightfully silver pants suit to the Australian premiere of her new movie The Golden Compass would be a good idea ... because clearly, to anyone with eyes, it is not ... behold:

Ye gods, this tragic outfit is all kinds of wrong. How in the world did her friends and family let her out of the house looking like this. This mess truly deserves a rating of: Poop sandwich ... with an extra helping of crap slaw. [Source]

As if Nicole Kidman's outfit wasn't creepy enough to scare the hell out of y'all this fine Monday ... here are terrifying new photos of Michael Jackson persuing the book stacks at Barnes & Noble Booksellers this weekend:

Eek. The poor man has finally reached the point where he has to hold his face together with pieces of tape. He might want to pay a visit to Vicki B's mechanic ... perhaps a parts upgrade might help fix the problem. [Source]

Here are new pics of Zac Efron on the set of his new movie Seventeen which is currently filming in Santa Monica, CA:

I understand this will be Zac's first major movie where he won't be forced to sing any awful songs in order to provide us entertainment. I guess we'll just have to rely on his acting prowess ... oh yeah, and his upper arms. [Source]

And finally ... the new trailer for The Dark Knight has been officially released to the InterWeb after debuting in front of showings of I Am Legend this weekend ... here are a few screencaps:

OMG ... it looks so good. The trailer does a really great job of giving a good feel for the tone of the movie without giving too much away. I know this won't be the last we'll get to see of the movie before its official release next July but it's another great little gem to add to the collection. Check it out. [Source]

It seemed pretty obvious that Tori would come out as Clyde and Isabel for the last night of the tour since she did Pip and Santa in Anaheim the night before but Clyde never showed. I'm pretty bummed that I never got to see Clyde at all on this tour but it seems pretty clear -- Pip staked her claim on as much of the tour as she could. During Cruel, Pip gave a shout-out to the writers who are on strike saying something to the effect of, You writers, stop sucking the cock of the establishment, take back the power ... or something along those lines ... and was met by thunderous applause. The show was somber and very poignant ... here is a short video of Tori saying goodbye for the last time of the tour:

I remember back in February when David and I were in Barcelona that the first rumblings of a new Tori Amos album started to make the rounds ... then all these months later, her entire tour is already dunzo. It seems like the year went by so fast ... and now we must wait for news of the next Tori Amos album or project. It's been a great year ... thank you so much Tori.

And now ... it's time to fly the coop. Sarah and I are hours away from flying back together to Detroit for the holiday season so ... I must be out. But I'll be comin' atcha next from sunny Detroit Rock City. I'm out.
