Laid To Rest

UGH ... this morning is a bit rough. The gang got together last night to feast and drink and I'm still reeling from the effects this AM ... I'll try not to die on you mid-post ;)

Yesterday afternoon, Anna Nicole Smith was memorialized in a church service in the Bahamas and surprisingly enough, the funeral (by pretty much all accounts) was a relatively tasteful and somber affair. The most lavish, "outrageous" thing that was apparent to me was the pink blanket that was laid on top of Anna Nicole's casket:

Former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith was laid to rest Friday with all the pomp and circumstance of a royal funeral ... The principals waging a three-way custody battle over 5-month-old Dannielynn — Smith's companion Howard K. Stern, her mother Virgie Arthur and former boyfriend Larry Birkhead— walked into the white-columned church, and for at least a moment their bickering was put aside for the lavish closed-casket service. Smith was then taken to her final resting place in a mahogany coffin draped in a rhinestone-studded pink blanket as police, smartly dressed in white belted tunics and pith helmets, maintained order. Onlookers, mostly Bahamians, spontaneously broke out into the hymn When Peace Like a River as the white hearse carrying the 39-year-old blonde bombshell and the rest of the funeral cortege arrived at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. In a last-minute bid to halt the burial, Arthur sought to have Supreme Court Justice Anita Adams grant her client custody of Smith's body, but the Bahamian judge denied it, according to Lilliemae MacDonald, the justice's secretary. That cleared the way for Smith to be buried next to her 20-year-old son Daniel, who died of apparent drug use in September. When the onlookers saw Arthur arrive at the cemetery, they booed. They cheered when Birkhead stepped out of his limo. The guests disappeared under a green tent that covered the gravesite amid tight security. Smith was being buried in a tiara and custom-made, beaded gown, said organizer Patrik Simpson of Beverly Hills, Calif. [Source]

There was much discussion over the "guest list" for Anna Nicole's funeral but, except for former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, pretty much the only attendees were family and friends:

Even Anna Nicole's last husband, J. Howard Marshall (well, his remains anyway), was in attendance. I am relieved to hear that the funeral wasn't the gaudy affair that many expected. It sounds like a very classy and respectful way for Anna Nicole to be remembered, eulogized and laid to rest. [Source]

My girl Kelis was arrested yesterday morning in Miami Beach, FL for verbally assaulting a couple of undercover police officers that she mistakenly took for prostitutes. Um, yeah. Here is Kelis' semi-cute mug shot:

Singer Kelis was arrested early Friday morning in Miami Beach after screaming racial obscenities at two female police officers who were posing as prostitutes ... The officers were working an undercover operation in South Beach, when cops say Kelis started screaming racial slurs at the women. She continued screaming and rushed toward them, and had to be restrained by friends, a police report said. According to the report, Kelis' "actions caused people walking by to stop and form a crowd. The sidewalk was blocked by the disturbance, causing people to walk in the street and causing traffic to stop." Kelis, the wife of rapper Nas, was charged with two misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and for resisting arrest. Seriously? This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Poor Kelis ... this could've happened to anyone who just happens to enjoy yelling at prostitutes. [Source]

Here is a really cute picture of Jennifer Garner and her daughter Violet chillin' out in Vancouver, Canada earlier this week ... the look on Violet's face as she takes in her first experience with snow:

Jen is in Vancouver working on a new film and Violet came along with her. This really is an adorable picture ... [Source]

... unlike these pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow her son Moses and the very scary lady who is standing behind them:

Plump little Moses seems unfazed by the terrifying hissing lady standing right behind him. She looks ready to attack ... Gwyneth should watch out. [Source]

If it's one thing that Fergie Ferg and her lover Josh Duhamel like to do together it's work out ... here are more pictures of the pair out for a little jog in LA earlier this week:

It's interesting that Josh didn't spend much time running next to his girlfriend ... in the last two pics it kinda looks like he's running away from his girlfriend. That's right Josh ... you should just keep on runnin'. [Source]

There have been rumblings that the yet-divorced wife of Russell Simmons Mrs. Kimora Lee Simmons has been gettin cozy with actor extraordinaire and just named Calvin Klein underwear model Djimon Hounsou ... and this picture of the pair leaving Matsuhisa restaurant in Beverly Hills together on their way to Winston's in West Hollywood would seem to validate those wagging tongues:

They seem like an unlikely match to me but whatever floats their boats is cool, I suppose. I know that things have been cool between Kimora and Russell since they "separated" (in name only) but I wonder if Russell will continue to be cool now that Kimora has found a new dude to keep her warm at night. Speaking of things heating up ... yesterday we saw a picture of Nicole Richie wearing a ring on her left ring finger and Pink reader AMC sent me this recent photo of her boyfriend Joel Madden also wearing a similar ring on his left ring finger:

Curious, isn't it? I suppose it's possible the pair have merely pledged their fidelity to one another and the rings are a symbol of that promise ... or the pair got hitched behind our backs with all of us none the wiser. Hmm ... the plot thickens. [Source, thanks AMC]

And finally ... here is this week's batch of photos sent in by Pink is the new Blog readers -- Lauren sends in a picture of her very good friend Jamie at her Pink themed bridal shower -- Meghan dressed as a Pink superhero at a Superhero Party they threw for some friends recently -- Margaret and her freshly shorn 12 inches of hair that she donated to the amazing charity Locks of Love -- Helen from Hoffman's Bookshop in Columbus, Ohio sends in a pic of her co-workers Karen and John in front of the Golden Gate Bridge -- Jazzercise instructors Sandy (15 years), Catherine (5 years) Eva (8 months), Lori (10 years) Cheryl (13 years) and Robin (14 years) [who is not pictured] sending David and me Anniversary wishes:

Thank you all so much for your amazing photos. Congrats to Jamie and much love and kudos to Margaret. Remember, I cannot post all the pics that get sent to me but I do look at and enjoy every one of them. Thank you all again soo much! XO

Les News:
Yesterday afternoon I met up with Sarah and Mark for some serious hanging out time (and PBR drankin') before our whole group of friends met up for dinner at Tanti Baci. David unfortunately came down with the flu and had to spend most of yesterday in bed. We missed him terribly at dinner ... but managed to have a great time nonetheless:

Yesterday was Oriana's actual 30th birthday so we celebrated her with food and wine (and later on various other spirits -- yes, my friends are drunks) at dinner before hitting up a couple of bars afterwards.

Tonight, tho, is the main event ... we are all going out to the Rasputin Supper Club in Brooklyn for a night of mirth, merriment and debauchery (no doubt). David seems to be feeling better today so hopefully he'll be up for some Russian dancing tonight. It's an absolutely beautiful day here in NYC today ... I am going to try to rest up and recover from last night before we head out tonight. Happy weekend all ... I'm out.
