Can't Sell Mags? Try Jewels
From the press release: Stephen Webster, the London-based jeweler best known for his contemporary and unconventional jewelry designs, has tapped long time friend and five-time Grammy winning music icon Christina Aguilera as the face of his new advertising campaign. The spring 2008 campaign marks Webster's first international advertising campaign and his first venture into the women's silver jewelry market. As Webster's muse and design inspiration behind the new Stephen Webster silver collection, Aguilera is featured wearing the new collection of cuffs, rings, earrings and necklaces. The campaign will break in the April issue of W Magazine. The inspiration for the campaign, invisaged and developed by Webster, stems from the legendary producer and director Alfred Hitchcock's iconic films that graced screens throughout the greater part of the twentieth century. Hitchcock, known for his ability to blend suspense, sex and humor, motivated Webster to transform Aguilera into the classic Hitchcock heroine. Depicting the common Hitchcock tenor of fear and fantasy, the ads are shot in both color and black and white and communicate Webster's synthesis of beauty and danger, reflected in all of his collections. "Stephen and I have been friends for many years and working together on this campaign and collection has been an incredible experience," said Aguilera. "He is a wonderful designer with a creative spirit and innovative vision and I am honored to be a part of it all." "I am very excited to launch my first advertising campaign with Christina as she has been a very close friend for many years and the main source of inspiration behind this collection," said Webster. "I have always loved Hitchcock's films and to be able to transport Christina and my jewelry into that classic setting was an amazing experience for me," added Webster. The campaign was photographed by Vincent Peters, styled by Victoria Adcock, with hair and make-up by Peter Savic and Kristofer Buckle.
As I've mentioned before, I really don't understand why Xtina has such difficulty selling magazines ... she is beautiful and talented and relevant and yet ... her magazine sales always underperform. I'm not entirely sure that she'll be able to be more successful in the jewelry market but it is nice of Stephen Webster to give her a shot. That being said, I really think these ads are very cool ... they're classy and are right in step with Xtina's style. Me like. [Source]
