The Great Escape

It's official ... the WGA Writer's Strike is finally over. The Writer's Guild of America union voted to put an end to the strike meaning that they can now go back to work on writing scripts for our favorite TV shows. It's not totally clear when exactly new eps of our fave shows will begin production again but now that the strike is over, there is a good chance that a little bit more of the TV season can be salvaged:

Striking Hollywood writers will be back at their keyboards Wednesday after voting overwhelmingly to end a 100-day walkout that essentially shut down the entertainment industry. More than 92 percent of the Writers Guild of America members who cast ballots Tuesday in Los Angeles and New York voted to end their work stoppage over residuals for writing in the digital age, including new media and the Internet. The new deal is for three years. "The strike is over. Our membership has voted, and writers can go back to work," said Patric Verrone, president of the WGA's West chapter. Michael Winship, president of WGA's East guild, said, "The success of this strike is a significant achievement not only for ourselves but the entire creative community, now and in the future." WGA members walked off the job November 5 after talks broke down over how writers are paid for the use of their material on the Internet and DVDs, among other issues. "It is not all that we hoped for, and it is not all we deserve," Verrone said when a tentative deal was announced Saturday. But he added, "This is the best deal this guild has bargained for in 30 years." Leslie Moonves, chief executive officer of CBS Corp., told The Associated Press, "At the end of the day, everybody won. "It was a fair deal and one that the companies can live with, and it recognizes the large contribution that writers have made to the industry." The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents production companies and media conglomerates, has had no comment on the agreement.

Happy Day, Happy Day! More Lost ... more Heroes ... more 24 -- er, at some point. Again, the strike may be over but that doesn't mean that all of our shows are going to magically come back immediately. I understand that some shows may have time to produce more shows for airing this TV season but, most likely, a majority of our TV shows will not be able to return until next season. I am still not totally sure what is gonna happen with the next season of 24 but I'm thankful the long ordeal is finally over. It may take some time for things to get back to normal but it'll happen soon enough, I think. I'm very glad that the WGA was able to hang in there for as long as they did ... that was the only way they were going to be able to negotiate for a better contract. Much congrats ... now get back to work, y'all :) [Source]

In other positive news, Britney Spears and her mama Lynne Spears spent some time together this week working together in a bonding therapy session ... retail therapy, that is ... at Miss Sixty. Hey, any therapy is better than no therapy, n'est ce pas?

Britney Spears appears to be bonding with her mother – by shopping. Spears and mom Lynne spent a half-hour at the Miss Sixty store in Los Angeles, where the pop star spent $650 on J Rocker Jeans, a white Carmen T-shirt, a Tirsa blue dress and a Maybelle stretch tee. Spears, who once had been estranged from her mother – with an uneasy peace during Britney's psychiatric care – even asked her for shopping advice, according to an observer. "Her mom helped her get the right size jeans that she ended up buying," an eyewitness says. "Britney also held up the blue dress in front of her and showed her mom before she decided to buy it." Daughter and mother then traveled to the Millennium Dance Complex, where Spears taught a dance class for youngsters the day before.

Yay! Things may not be totally normal just yet (I understand that Adnan Ghalib is still in the picture, unfortch) but Britney's life has been so much more positive since her parents came back into her life. She hasn't been hanging out at gas stations, she hasn't been seen roaming the streets in the middle of the night crying, she hasn't been in the company of Sam Lutfi ... she's actually been spending her nights, gasp, at home! In fact, Britney even spent part of her free time (which used to be spent in public restrooms) teaching dance classes to kids. It's amazing! But as I said, I don't think she's out of the water just yet ... but I'm so happy to see that things are moving forward so positively. Woot! [Source]

The 2008 ELLE Style Awards took place at The Westway in London, England last night where the uberstylish are rewarded for their fabulosity ... or some such nonsense like that. Here are a few pics from the ELLE Style Awards red carpet last night:

The ESAs brought out British luminaries like Roisin Murphy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Will Young (among others) ... as well as Yankee imports like Kate Hudson. But it must be said that one fashionista shined brighter than all the others (yes, even more than you, Will Young) ... Miss Kylie Minogue:

Keira Knightley and Kylie Minogue have scooped top honours at the Elle Style Awards. Knightley made up for her Bafta disappointment by scooping the best actress prize, while Atonement co-star James McAvoy was named best actor. Minogue meanwhile, was named Woman of the Year. Little Britain star David Walliams, who presented Kylie with the award, hailed her triumphant comeback from breast cancer. He said: "She came back fighting fit and hasn't stopped since. She personifies courage, determination, beauty and style. She went back on tour and I've been to see her four times - does that make me gay?" Accepting the honour, Minogue told the audience: "It's amazing to be here. I'm not exactly sure what I've done to deserve this, because I get to do something that I love. This award will take pride of place in my apartment." Hollywood starlet Kate Hudson was crowned Elle Style Icon for her "distinctive and kooky" fashion sense.

While perusing the new issue of ELLE magazine (which I did in preparation for my meeting with Nina Garcia ... which I'm not sure I've mentioned quite enough) I learned that Grecian dresses are all the rage this season (and now you see why I don't normally read fashion magazines ... because they make me wanna say that some things are "all the rage"), hence the reason that Kylie was lookin' so amazing in this lovely green dress. I am really loving her Tootie-esque bob hairdo ... it's a cute look for her, one that is pretty unique these days. Congrats, Kylie ... you deffo deserve awards like this!! [Source]

Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin were joined by their co-stars Rachel Weisz, Isla Fiser and others at the Ziegfeld Theater here in snowy rainy NYC last night for the premiere of their new Valentine's Day movie Definitely, Maybe. Here are a few pics from the red carpet:

If Katherine Heigl is the new Julia Roberts-like queen of romantic comedy then Ryan Reynolds is the ... well, boy version of the new Julia Roberts-like queen of romantic comedy. There is a very disarmingly boyish quality to Ryan that makes him seem very approachable and likeable ... all he needs is the right movie to really shine in for his star to really take off. I dunno if this movie is the right vehicle to make him a household name but I think he has it in him. I suppose it doesn't hurt that the man has a ridiculously hot body and the promise of near nekkidnes in his films might also do much to make him more appealing to movie going audiences ... but that's just a crazy guess. [Source]

So ... you may recall that Paris Hilton's little brother, Barron Hilton, II, was arrested early yesterday morning in Malibu, CA on suspicion of drunk driving ... yes, who could forget. Well, today we have a whole bunch of deets on just how drunk Barron was when he was arrested, why he had to spend all day long locked up in jail when his family has more money than they know what to do with and, of course, his charming mug shot. Do you think that mama Kathy Hilton has a place reserved on her wall to hang her children's mug shots?

Like sister, like brother? Paris Hilton's 18-year-old younger brother, Barron Hilton, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of driving under the influence and carrying a fake driver's license, authorities confirm. The younger Hilton was arrested at 8:04 a.m. after failing a field sobriety test, according to L. A. County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. He spent all day in jail before his $20,000 bail was posted. His arraignment was set for April 14. Hilton was driving black Mercedes on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu when another motorist observed him driving erratically, according to Whitmore. When Hilton stopped, the other driver had him sit on bus bench until deputies arrived, Whitmore says. Hilton's blood-alcohol level was .14 percent, said Whitmore. The California legal limit for a person over 21 is .08 percent, but for a person under 21, any blood-alcohol level is considered legally drunk. The DUI charge is a misdemeanor; the more serious charge is carrying a fake license, a felony.

It's a bit sad that no one was at all surprised by the news that another Hilton child was arrested for drunk driving. It just goes to show, it doesn't matter how much money people have ... poor parenting is poor parenting. I understand that ma and pa Hilton, Kathy and Rick, were not at all interested in bailing their son out of jail ... fortunately for Barron, he has a big sister who suffered her own run-ins with the law and SURELY would be there to help him out ... right? [Source, Source, Source]

Yeah, wrong. Apparently, Paris Hilton figured she'd also leave her little brother in jail so that he could "learn his lesson" on his own. So while Barron was learning his lesson (ie. trying to get his friends to bail him out), Paris was parting the night away at Pure nightclub in Las Vegas, NV ... a-ha! So that's the real reason she couldn't be bother with helping her lil' bro out of the pickle he got himself into:

Sources tell TMZ Barron Hilton called his sister Paris right after he got busted for DUI this morning, pleading with her to bail him out. Paris said no. We're told Paris rejected her brother's request, telling her 18-year-old brother, "You're going to learn your lesson." TMZ also knows Paris was "very upset and very disappointed in him." For the record, Paris was 25 when she was busted for DUI ... While Paris Hilton's baby brother was rotting away in a Lost Hills jail cell yesterday after a DUI arrest, La Paris was en route to Las Vegas -- where she shook her ass all night alongside Kristin Cavallari at Pure Nightclub. As TMZ reported, Barron Hilton called big sis and pleaded with her to bail him out ... she said no. But Paris can't say "no" to a party! We know she wasn't celebrating the success of "The Hottie and the Nottie."

LOL! What a family! I don't know that I'd wish being a Hilton on my worst enemy. [Source, Source]

Fortunately, tho, in the end ... Barron Hilton, II was eventually sprung from jail after his friends hooked up with a bail bondsman and paid his way out. For some reason, Barron wasn't at all interested in posing for pictures on his way out of jail unlike his sister before him who beamed for the cameras when she was released from jail last summer:

Paris' beleaguered little bro finally busted out of the joint! Barron Hilton walked out of jail at around 5:50 PM PT, covering his head with a jacket. He got into the back of a silver car, which was escorted out by a Sheriff's vehicle. As we first reported, his sis told him to take a hike when he called her to help bail him out, so his buddies had to call in a bail bondsman.

Poor thing. Well ... if this were any other kid, I'd like to believe that this experience might've taught him an important lesson. But, since he's a Hilton, I fully expect that this won't be the lad's last run in with the law. [Source, Source]

Today' is Valentine's Day Eve and lurve is deffo in the air ... here are a couple of nauseatingly cute pics of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt lovin' all up on each other at a party thrown by Electronic Arts in LA last night:

But things haven't been all champagne and kisses for Miss Heidi ... she reveals to US Weekly that she has been having a bit of a tough time dealing with all the negative feedback that she's been receiving since the release of her first music video for her song Higher -- despite the fact that the song reached the #7 position on the iTunes Singles Chart:

Despite receiving anything but positive reviews, Heidi Montag's debut single "Higher" reached No. 7 on the iTunes Top 10 pop chart. "Looks like all the haters are also buying it!" The Hills star tells Us Weekly in its latest issue, on newsstands now. But the negative responses – "Makes me feel uncontrollably ill," "beyond pathetic," and "the crappiest video I have ever seen" were just some of the comments posted on Usmagazine.com – humiliated Montag. "I just started sobbing uncontrollably," The Hills star tells Us. "I cried myself to sleep that first night after my video came out," she says. "I just couldn't understand why people I didn't even know felt the need to be so cruel and hurtful toward me." "I am just a 21-year-old from a small town in Colorado trying to follow her dreams," Montag says. Boyfriend Spencer Pratt, the director of the video, was there for support. "I just held her and told her it was going to be OK," he tells Us. "This is just part of being an artist. If it were easy, everyone would be a pop star." How did the video concept come to be? "We were at the beach and, literally, Spencer had his camera and a boom box in the trunk," Montag recalls of the amateur shoot in October. "We did it in one take, maybe two, and it took us 20 minutes to film and cost us zero dollars." "We had other ideas but we couldn't afford them," Montag says.

Well, I suppose that success is the best revenge. You really can't argue with the fact that the girl's debut single worked its way up the iTunes download chart solely on the promotion of that infamous music video. It's clear that there is some significant support for her music, there is no way she could've charted if folks were downloading the song. I know I'm anxious to hear more. I'm also interested to see what her next music video might be like. I say, go with flashing neon lights ... you can't go wrong with flashing lights ... just ask Kylie Minogue. [Source]

In other pre-Valentine's Day news, Vicki B. was spotted shopping for Vday cards in NYC this week ... presumably for her sweetiecakes and hubby David Beckham:

She's been with her husband for more than a decade, but Victoria Beckham hasn't tired of romantic gestures. The Spice Girl was spotted browsing through Valentine's Day cards while on a shopping spree at Dylan's Candy Bar in New York, eventually settling on a sweet surprise. The card read: "I can't (bear) to be without you" - with gummy bear treats in place of the word. Victoria's youngest son Cruz – who turns 3 next week – joined her on the outing, with the pair also hitting a toy store on 5th Avenue. David and Posh may well be spending Valentine's Day apart - the football star is currently in LA with the couple's other two sons Romeo and Brooklyn.

Awww ... isn't this just the most presh thing you've ever seen? It's a shame that VB and Becks can't be together on VD :( Well, OK, I'm not all that broken up about it ... but still, it can't be easy for them. [Source]

While Vicki B. is keeping her commitments with the Spice Girls Reunion Tour on the East Coast, daddy Becks is holding down the fort on the West Coast with his eldest sons Brooklyn and Romeo. Wasn't I *just* saying yesterday that I wished Becks would take up the hobby of bike riding so that we could see him squeezed into the spandex riding outfit? Well ... he's not wearing the outfit but I'll take what I can get ... here is an ADORRRRRRRRRABLE pic of Becks with his boys on their bikes:

I just love him. This pic is so cute. [Source]

Well, well, well ... what have we here? While Amy Winehouse's hubby Blake Civil-Fielder is rotting away in a London jail cell somewhere, Amy has found a new boy to spend her time with these days. Here are pics of cheeky Ms. Amy lookin' awfully chummy with her new male friend who, ironically, is also named Blake:

Singer Amy Winehouse hit the town in London last night...with a man who shares the same name as her imprisoned husband. As Blake Fielder-Civil languishes in jail, the Grammys winner attended two London Fashion Week parties with American photographer and artist, Blake Wood. In an attempt to downplay gossip that the two are romantically involved, Winehouse has reportedly told friends that Wood is homosexual. But a newspaper claimed today that Wood, who has been nicknamed 'Good Blake' because of his comparatively clean lifestyle compared with Fielder-Civil, is bisexual and has been getting increasingly close with Winehouse. Referring to the pair's relationship, The Sun quoted a source saying: "Amy's husband wouldn't be happy if he knew how close they'd become." There was no evidence of any romantic involvement during their night out in London yesterday, however. And despite her new friendship, Amy is clearly still very much attached to her husband, who is currently on remand at London's Pentonville Prison after being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. Her love was on full display yesterday as she told a camera crew: "I just need my husband." Asked if how her husband is doing in prison, she said: "He's fine. He's gorgeous."

Shoot ... I guess you can't blame the girl for keeping a spare guy around just in case. To be honest, as far as these 2 Blakes go, I think I prefer the first Blake over this new Blake. Despite the fact that Blake #1 is currently locked up in jail for trying to pervert justice, he is a might more attractive than this Blake #2 -- who looks a little too much like Cher circa 1981 to me. [Source]

In other new couples news ... the young and innocent Emma Watson (of Harry Potter fame) was spotted cavorting with rocker Johnny Borrell, the lead singer of the band Razorlight and former paramour of Kirsten Dunst. Here are a few "innocent" photos of the couple together last night ... Emma claims that they were just "hanging out":

Those Harry Potter kids sure are all grown up now: Emma Watson – aka goody-two-shoes Hermione Granger – spotted partying with Kirsten Dunst's ex (and Razorlight frontman) Johnny Borrell? "They were hanging out. Emma has had a boyfriend [rugby player Tom Duckworth] for years," a friend tells PEOPLE, pouring cold water on any romance talk. Watson, 17, and Borrell, 27, first hung out Monday at the Burberry/Vanity Fair portrait exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery, where Borrell pointed out photographs of DH Lawrence (which he later told PEOPLE was his favorite) and Aldous Huxley to an adoring looking Watson. "She was probably just a bit star struck," says the friend of the adoring looks. "She's usually chaperoned to these kinds of events by her father." The pair – who were also joined by a female friend of Watson's – then headed on to a party across town for London fashion label PPQ. Borrell and Watson left the PPQ bash separately – the rocker with another girl. Still, another source says that this Watson-Borrell encounter was a one-time thing. "She has never met him before," the source says. "She has not spoken to him since and will likely not speak to him again." The insider explains that the couple were photographed together for a simple reason: there were not enough cars to take Watson from one party to another, so she and Borrell opted to share one.

HMMMMMMMM ... this explanation seems innocent enough. I guess I can understand how in ALL OF LONDON there weren't enough cars to take these two in separate vehicles. I guess we'll see if anything comes of this ... they make a cute couple, after all. Maybe they could be the new British HaLo? [Source, Source]

Here are a few great pics of Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden out for a nice afternoon with his homeboys in LA this week:

It's nice that Joel is able to spend time with his friends even tho I *know* he wants to spend every waking moment with is daughter Harlow Winter and his lovely lady Nicole Richie. Hee hee ... he needs a belt tho, we wouldn't want the poor guy to suffer any wardrobe malfunctions now, would we? [Source]

In happy news (I think) Gary Coleman, of Diff'rent Strokes fame, has revealed that he has gotten married ... to a woman who has been described as "twice his size and half his age" ... and has been since August of last year. Here is a pic of the happily married couple:

Coleman, the 40-year-old star of Diff’rent Strokes, speaks exclusively with INSIDE EDITION in a two part interview about his secret wedding to 22-year-old Shannon Price. Coleman tells INSIDE EDITION the couple married secretly on August 28, 2007 on a Nevada mountaintop after meeting on the set of one of Coleman’s movies. The ceremony was extremely intimate. Coleman says, "Nobody was around but the minister, preacher, the videographers, the photographer, the helicopter pilot and us. That was all that was there. There was nobody else." Price, who actually proposed to Coleman, tells INSIDE EDITION he surprised her with their wedding on her 22nd birthday. "I didn't know that I was going to be in a helicopter ride and seeing the Grand Canyon and getting married in the Valley of Fire. I had no clue," says the blushing bride. "I mean I knew that we were getting married, but I thought it would be just a little chapel." Coleman, who is only 4'8" tall, admits that this is the first "romantic relationship" he has participated in. "I never got the opportunity to be romantic or feel romantic with anyone ... I wasn't saving myself, she just happened to be the one." Price, who stands over 5'7" tall, tells INSIDE EDITION height was never a factor in their relationship. "He was ten feet tall to me because he was sweet and I really liked his personality. That doesn't really matter to me." Coleman echoes Price's sentiment when it comes to their age difference telling INSIDE EDITION, "I don't have issues with age, I have issues with intelligence…She’s more intelligent then I am and that's what matters to me." The couple also shares the reason they say they kept their marriage a secret. Price says, "I just want my own identity as well because I don't want to be known as Gary Coleman's wife." Her proud husband agrees. "I wouldn't want that in a million years. I wouldn't want you to be known as Gary Coleman's wife. I hope you do get successful. She's a great eBay-er. She's a fabulous eBay-er. I hope she gets famous for that."

OK ... I have to stop right there ... I don't want to be mean here so I'm going to not really comment on the eBay thing. I will say that I think it's very sweet of Gary to have so much faith in his wife to think that she can attain her own level of fame ... even if the thinks she can do so on eBay. I had no idea that Gary Coleman was a real-life 40 Year Old Virgin ... I say, good for him for finally finding love. The couple look very happy together ... I wish them nothing but the best of luck!! [Source]

Xtina Aguliera is showing off her newborn baby boy, Max, on the cover of the new issue of People magazine:

Normally, I'd prolly say something like, "Meh. Britney did it first" but instead I'll just say that both mother and child look beautiful. I can't wait to see more. [Source]

Trent Reznor has updated NIN.com with a new photo and a new cryptic but hopeful message:

Here is the full text of Trent's message:

We have been very busy doing secret things. We'll start to tell you about them soon.

It's new music ... it has to be ... I can't wait ... Woot! Woot! [Source]

And finally ... my Pink reader Lisa, who hails from Detroit, MI and works for Saturn, sends in a pic that she took with Nina Garcia at an ELLE magazine event that was held in Detroit Rock City last night:

Lisa describes Nina as "delightful" which comes as no surprise to me :) I understand that Detroit showed Nina a great time last night which pleases me to no end. I love this pic ... thanks for sending it in, Lisa!! xoxo [thanks Lisa]

Les News:
David and I spent most of yesterday holed up in his apartment watching the snow fall on NYC. I'm telling you, it didn't stop all day long. We would've loved to have stayed in all day long but we had dinner plans with my friend Brad, his new boyfriend Christian and their friends Kathy and Katrine. Honestly, the show was so deep we prolly could've gotten there by dog sled but we managed to find a cab that would take us thru the snow to the other side of town for dinner in the Lower East Side at Angelina's. Here is a pic of us last night at dinner ... note the "warm" fireplace behind us:

Yes, folks, the Christian in this pic is THE Christian that everyone knows and loves from this season of Project Runway. It had been ages since I've been able to hang out with Brad and Kathy so this was a real treat. Dinner was delish ... we were charmed to death by Katrine (an art student friend of Christian's who is from Norway) and Christian was at his animated best (he joked that this pic of him is worth $10,000 since he never smiles in photos). We got to hang out for quite some time before having to venture out into the snow again. It was a really fun night.

And so ... that is about it ... David and I fly off to Amsterdam tonight ... where we will be for the rest of the week. I'll be comin' atcha from Europe tomorrow, y'all. Happy early VD! I'm out.
