The Deflated Globes

Today is the first custody court hearing for the Spederline family since Britney Spears shocked the world when she suffered her mental breakdown on the night of January 3, 2008. Because of that incident, when she failed to hand over her children to Kevin Federline at the appointed time and chose instead to lock herself in the bathroom with her youngest son Jayden James and was hauled away to Cedars-Sinai Hospital for a mental evaluation as a result, the commissioner overseeing the Spederline custody battle called today's hearing to address the matter of whether or not Britney will be able to enjoy any visitation rights with her young sons. There has been much speculation as to whether or not Britney will even show up for today's hearing. As I type this, K-Fed has already shown up in court (wearing a navy suit and a mohawk). At least we know that Britney can't say she's "too sick" to attend the hearing after we saw her out and about this entire weekend with her newest companion Adnan Ghalib:

While Britney should've been lying low, taking counsel with her legal representatives as to how to prove to the court that she is worthy to spend time with her children, she was running all over town with Mr. Ghalib ... cussing out folks at Macy's and screaming expletives at the ever-present paparazzi:

Wearing daisy dukes, a T-shirt and high-top boots, Spears and Ghalib went shopping at a Santa Monica Rite Aid and a Designer Shoe Warehouse. They then lunched at Gaucho Grill in Studio City, California. They ordered $35 worth of grub, including sautéed mushrooms, a caprese salad, two orders of the beef empanadas, two orders of the spinach empanadas and two Pepsi sodas. They walked out holding hands. Their lovefest continued at the Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks, California, where a witness tells Usmagazine.com, they held hands. They went into See's Candies and Macy's. When an employee accidentally bumped into her, Spears sniped, "F*ck you, bitch," leaving the saleswoman "speechless," onlooker Kevin Watson tells Us. Her bad temper continued as she left when she was barraged by photographers. "I'm f--king over it!" she yelled at the shutterbugs as they snapped her picture. "Get out of my g--damn face!"

See ... it's really hard to feel sorry for when she puts herself (or lets other put herself) in those situations. If she truly were "over it" then she'd prolly just stay home and watch TV or something. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other if she showed or didn't show for court today. At this point, it's hard to gage what her mental capacity is on any given day. If she does show up, I'm pretty sure Ghalib will be there right by her side mugging for the cameras. He has prolly been dreaming of the day when he might be on the other side of the camera. He really hit the jackpot this time. [Source]

Here is the video clip of Britney cussing out the paps:

Watching her snap like this is very disconcerting ... it's as if at any moment she can meltdown again. Heaven help her and us alike :(

In other sad news, the 2008 Golden Globes hobbled its way thru the night last night by trying its best to put on a show despite the fact that they had absolutely nothing to work with. Different news outlets did their best to piece together some sort of ... anything ... for folks at home to watch ... unfortch, their best efforts were all for naught -- hardly anyone bothered to tune in to watch the boring telecasts:

Matt Lauer and other NBC reporters filled two gutted hours with morning-show-style interviews with nominees, but the result was less like the brisk, newsy first hour of "Today" than its frilly, prolonged fourth hour. The showdown between NBC and the striking guild members was all too apparent between the lines. Mr. Lauer, who interviewed Russell Crowe, Denzel Washington and Sally Field, didn't ask any of them about the strike that had led them to boycott the awards ceremony. All in all, the preshow special looked hastily put together and awkward -- an apt preview of the tensions that poisoned the no-frills announcement event. NBC, which had bought the rights to the Golden Globes, wanted to recoup some of its losses with exclusive coverage of the substitute event, a news conference. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association instead opened the news conference at the Beverly Hilton to all the media. And that led to a bizarre showdown: while E! and the TV Guide Network showed the announcements being read out in the hotel ballroom, NBC snubbed the event and jury-rigged its own version, using Nancy O'Dell and Billy Bush, the anchors of the NBC Universal show "Access Hollywood," to announce the winners on a different gold-colored stage, with different film clips. NBC chose its own timing to announce the winners, and was mostly slower, so that viewers watching E! learned that Marion Cotillard won the award for best actress in a musical or comedy for "La Vie en Rose" long before NBC announced it ... The strike was obviously the biggest winner of the night. Mr. Bush brushed past the subject, lauding Tina Fey's award for best actress in a television comedy and noting that Ms. Fey, the creator of "30 Rock," was also a "great writer." He added, "And as most actors will tell you, they're only as good as the material they are handed." In the special, Mr. Lauer didn't discuss the writers and neither did any of the other reporters who had taped interviews. Hoda Kotb, a member of the "Today" B team, spoke to Kyra Sedgwick about "The Closer," her hit series on TNT, and didn’t seem to notice or care that Ms. Sedgwick gave her an opening to ask about the strike, saying how grateful she was to the show's writers. (That portion was shown on the NBC Web site but cut from the actual show.) ... The NBC anchor Lester Holt probably put it best. In a piece about the bare-bones awards ceremony at the end of the network's evening newscast, Mr. Holt noted ruefully that the blackout "left a lot of us with plenty of time on our hands." It was a weird night, and NBC didn’t manage to make the best of it.

Yeah ... it was not a great night for Hollywood. If the Studio Bigwigs don't get that the striking WGA aren't effing around by now they're complete morons. The Golden Globes was such a debacle that I can't imagine that the Bigwigs would let the same thing happen to the Academy Awards. I contend that the WGA will not back down if it has to shutdown the Oscars as well -- for all our sakes, I hope the Studios come back to the table to try and reach an agreement. If one thing can be learned from last night's mess ... the Writers are not playing around. They're in it to win it and I hope they win it soon. In further sad news, at least for Cowboys fans, it looks like the Jessica Simpson jinx strikes again. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo, who has been dating Jessica for a few weeks now, thought it would be a great idea to take a vacation with Jessica and her family to Mexico when he prolly should've been training for the playoffs ... and ended up paying the price yesterday. The Cowboys were upset by the New York Giants and ended up losing in the second round of playoff games. With his tail between his legs and a sheepish look on his face ... Romo skulked off the field after the loss and then had to face the music in the press room to try and explain what happened to him:

Romo – who faced widespread criticism for jetting off to Los Cabos, Mexico, last week with new girlfriend Jessica Simpson – lost to the New York Giants Sunday night in a second-round playoff upset. After the game, Romo – who had a mediocre outing, completing just half of his passes and throwing a last-second interception – had no choice but to address the controversy, labeled "Cancungate" in the Dallas press. Asked if he's worried about the fan reaction, Romo said no, insisting, "I'm comfortable in my own skin ... and strong enough in my faith." The Pro Bowler, 27, also defended his decision to spend a few days with Simpson, and some of his fellow teammates, during his off week. "I thought I was making a good decision by not going to Vegas and drinking for two or three days," he explained ... Dallas's star receiver, Terrell Owens – who previously joked that Simpson, 27, was "not a fan favorite" thanks to her effect on the young quarterback's play – defended Romo in a teary post-game outburst. "You guys can point the finger at him and talk about the vacation, but if you do that, it's really unfair," he said, his voice shaking as he continued: "We lost as a team. We lost as a team." Still, Romo seemed to be taking the defeat personally. "It hurts, you know," he admitted. "Remembering all of the things you do to put yourself in the position to succeed. . . . When you don't come through, especially if you're in the quarterback position, it's a really tough pill to swallow. It really is."

For her part, Jessica Simpson was nowhere to be seen in Dallas this weekend ... she opte to stay home in LA, far away from the game. It's a good thing, too. Had she been at the game I'm sure the Dallas faithful would've tarred and feathered her right there on the field. Well, now that Jessica pretty effectively killed the Dallas Cowboys post-season she now has a lot of time to spend hanging out with her football boyfriend ... that is, if he doesn't start to resent her. I wouldn't bank on Jessimo's relationship standing the test of time. [Source]

In Detroit, General Motors got the party started this weekend with their annual Detroit Auto Show pre-party called GM Style ... here are a pics of Mary J. Blige, Kid Rock, Adam Levine from Maroon 5 and racecar driver Jeff Gordon from the pre-show press conference:

But after the press conference niceties were finished, the real party got underway as Mary J. and Kid Rock both took to the stage to officially kickoff Detroit's biggest annual par-tay -- the North American International Auto Show:

Former Detroit Lions' great Robert Porcher summed it up best: "I hate when people say this doesn't seem like Detroit. This is Detroit. And these are the kinds of events that go on here. Much more than a lot of people realize." Porcher was speaking of the much-talked-about GM Style party that kicked off the North American International Auto Show on Saturday night in a specially created tent-like facility on the riverfront, directly adjacent to GM World Headquarters at the Renaissance Center. Mary J. Blige, celebrating her 37th birthday, opened the by-invitation-only event, performing her latest hit single, "Be Without You," as models pranced the massive white runway while an impressive white, 1953 Chevrolet Corvette convertible rolled out amongst them. The crowd rose to their feet in appreciation. Prior to the show's beginning, an estimated 2,000 guests mingled and enjoyed a multitude of open bars and food stations stocked by Forte Belanger. Amongst the offerings were duck leg confit and roasted duck breast, sea scallop lollipops, lobster soft-shell tacos, and cucumber and wakame seaweed salad. The show continued with outstanding performances by Maroon 5, DJ Jacques and Kid Rock, who brought it all down with a medley of old school rock and hip hop tunes mixed with his own hits, including a special appearance by Rev Run of Run DMC. A highlight of his performance was the reveal of the latest Corvette, which was elevated during the show.

Hellz yeah! Put your hands up for Detroit ... I love THIS CITY! I am always so proud at all the hard work that folks back home in Detroit put into trying to make our city thrive again. The Detroit's own North American International Auto Show is the BEST auto show in the world and I fully applaud anyone who works towards getting more people out to our fair city to enjoy it. Much props and love goes out to GM for throwing such a fun party ... there is a lot about Detroit to be very proud of :) [Source]

Here are a few lovely photos of Kylie Minogue lookin' all cute and shizz as she made her way in to pay a visit to the kiddies at Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick down in Oz this weekend:

I'm sure the kids really brightened up when Kylie came to visit. I know that my recuperation would've been aided muchly by a visit from Ms. Minogue. Kylie is due to be here in LA sometime this week to begin work on her new music video for her song Wow. I know I would die if I were able to have my own Kylie sighting ... alas, I'm way too young to die so maybe it's for the best. Still, if anyone has the skinny on where she might be -- hit me up :) [Source]

Another day, another new guy for Lindsay Lohan ... here are pics of L. Lo with a mysterious new guy who spent some time with her recently shopping for jewelry and the like:

Honestly, this new dude doesn't look like her usual type. I get more the friend vibe from him rather than a romantic one. It may be too early to tell ... but in all the pics that have come out of these two, in none of them is she straddling the boy. See? My money says he's a friend. [Source]

TMZ has a great new video of Paris Hilton exiting her car only to fall right onto the ground:

The vid clip is too short but so sweet. Click HERE to see it, it's worth the chuckle :) [Source]

In case you were wondering ... the newly blonde and beehiveless Amy Winehouse is just as batshizz crazy as the normal raven-haired, beehive wearin' version:

The fact that she is able to freak out Kelly Osbourne is very telling. Can someone please explain to me how we as a culture have succumbed to revering the insane? If Amy Winehouse did not have a hit album, she'd prolly be locked away behind bars by now. And yet ... not only is she free to terrorize the streets of London but there are folks that are working really hard to try and get her to the States so that she might perform on the Grammy Awards stage! It's a sad commentary on our times when folks like Amy Winehouse are who we look up to ... wouldn't it be cheaper to just put a homeless person on stage in her stead? I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find one who has bleeding cuts and is barefoot. [Source]

Here are a couple pictures of David Beckham and his eldest son Brooklyn enjoying an Arsenal football game this weekend:

Hahahhaha ... they can't even pretend that they're having a great time. Is it wrong that I suspect that Becks and co. don't really love soccer as much as they claim? Sometimes, it looks like they're just going thru the motions ... eh, it's okay, as long as Becks stays hot I guess that's all that really matters. [Source]

Here is our first look at the newest Disney Princess starring in her very own Disney animated movie titled The Princess and the Frog:

Walt Disney Pictures has revealed this first photo of princess Tiana in the studio's traditionally-animated The Princess and the Frog, coming to theaters in 2009. The movie is written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and features the music of Randy Newman. A musical set in the legendary birthplace of jazz -- New Orleans -- "The Princess and the Frog" will introduce the newest Disney princess, Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose), a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana's mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn.

While I really hate Randy Newman and anything he touches, I shant hold it against The Princess and the Frog. I am so excited that Disney is FINALLY creating an African-American Princess for little girls and the world at large to admire. It's about time that minorities are allowed to step into the forefront in this way. I am very much looking forward to Princess Tiana's big screen debut come 2009. [Source via ONTD!]

Zac Efron is featured on the cover and in the pages of the new issue of Details magazine:

In the article, Zac reveals "These days, everyone is just waiting for me to fuck up. I'm not gonna give anyone the satisfaction of that." To which I respond, never say never. It seems as if as soon as these sorts of statements are made by celebs ("I'm a virgin", "I'd never get arrested for DUI", "I'd never make a sex tape") they get caught doing the very thing they said they'd never get caught doing. The lightning strike of bad publicity hit pretty close to home when those nekkid pics of his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens hit the InterWeb last year ... it might behoove young Zac to just keep his mouth shut and not tempt fate. [Source]

And finally, this past Saturday I posted a sign made by Pink reader Stephanie in the hopes that Pink reader Justin would agree to be her date to their Senior Formal dance ... and I am very happy to report that he said yes:

Justin sent me this pic of the two of them and I just had to post it as a follow-up. Nothing warms the cold cockles of my heart like bringing folks together like this. I understand they had a faboo time together ... and it is my sincere wish that they continue to have more fabbo times to come :) xoxoxo [thanks Stephanie and Justin]

Les News:
I laid low for pretty much most of yesterday but finally made the time to see I Am Legend before it disappeared from movie theaters. I am a big fan of the book so I had high hopes that the movie would be just as good ... I'm really bummed that it was not as good as the book. In fact, it hardly resembled the book at all:

For the most part, I Am Legend the movie is only like I Am Legend the book in name only. So much of the original story was changed that I cannot possibly list all the changes. For one, the book is about vampires not diseased humans. True, in the book a disease explanation is given for the cause of vampirism but it is not presented in the way it is in the movie. The whole tone of the movie is just so different from the book ... I was bored for most of the time. The ending is nothing like the book's ending which really pissed me off. The whole thing reminds me of Wicked. The musical bears hardly any resemblance to the book it is based on. While the musical far surpasses the original novel, the same cannot be said for the movie version of Legend over the book. On a positive note, I will say that the special effects were amazing ... that was prolly my fave part of the movie. The dog was also a favorite of mine. She was so cute and such a great character (tho, again, not like she was in the book) that I couldn't walk out on the film when I kinda started wanting to. Do yourselves a favor ... read the book instead. It's a much more satisfying experience.

I still need to see Juno, tho. I just hope all the hype over that movie isn't just hype too.

It's Monday ... we don't like Mondays ... but we do what we can. I'm out.
