Happy Halloween!

Ugh. Last night I went out with Sarah, Candice and Mark for drinky-winkies and feel horrible today. We kept getting free drinks brought to us and boy am I paying for it today.

But, in good news, the good omens keep pouring in:

Redskins lose, so Kerry should win

October 31, 2004
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) -- John Kerry supporters have a welcome omen for their candidate: The Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

If history holds, the 28-14 result portends a victory for Kerry on Tuesday because the result of the Redskins' final home game before the presidential election has always accurately predicted the White House winner. If the Redskins win, the incumbent party wins. If they lose, the incumbent party is ousted.

"Oh, yeah, he's going to win. It's guaranteed," said Packers safety Darren Sharper, a Kerry supporter. "I don't have to vote now. Don't even have to go to the polls. Saved me a trip on Tuesday."

The streak began in 1933, when the Boston Braves were renamed the Redskins. Since then, beginning with Franklin Roosevelt's re-election in 1936, the trend has held, including a 2000 Redskins loss to the Tennessee Titans that predicted George W. Bush's win over Al Gore.

Woo hoo! I like the sound of this news :)

Here is a cool story for you Halloweenies:

Town to officially pardon executed witches

PRESTONPANS, Scotland (AP) -- Accused witches -- and their cats -- executed during a wave of hysteria and religious ferment centuries ago will be pardoned on Halloween in this Scottish township.

"There'll be no witches' hats, dress-ups or that sort of thing -- it will be a fairly solemn occasion," Adele Conn, spokeswoman for the baronial court that granted the pardons, said by telephone interview Friday.

Sunday's ceremony will publicly declare pardons for 81 local people executed in the 16th and 17th centuries for being witches. The pardons have been granted under ancient feudal powers due to be abolished within weeks.

It's about time!

I still feel really sick so I'm going to cut this short ...

Happy Hallowe'en to all!

Tori Amos Readies New Album The Beekeeper

Acclaimed Artist to Publish First Book Entitled Tori Amos: Piece by Piece

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- It has been over two years since musical force Tori Amos has brought new music to her ever-growing foundation of dedicated fans. On February 22nd Tori Amos will unveil two exciting projects- a new CD entitled The Beekeeper and her first book Tori Amos: Piece by Piece, co-written with journalist Ann Powers.

Currently, Tori is putting the finishing touches on The Beekeeper, which she's recording and self-producing in her UK studio Martian Engineering. On songs like "Sweet the Sting," "Sleeps with Butterflies," and "Ribbons Undone," Tori incorporates vintage organs, Afro-Cuban drums and Gospel choirs, working once again with longtime partners, drummer Matt Chamberlain and bassist Jon Evans.

Tori Amos explains, "The Beekeeper is musically inspired by the fact that the piano has realized that she has an organ. With my right hand on her organ and my left hand on her piano keys, I have been changed by the relationship between these two beautiful creatures, the Bosendorfer piano and the B3 Hammond organ."

In the book Tori Amos: Piece by Piece co-penned with writer Ann Powers, the usually private Tori gives a rare inside look into many intimacies of her life as both a private individual and a very public performing musician. The book, published by Broadway Books (a division of Random House), will be released on February 8th. On Thursday, February 24, Tori and Ann will make a special appearance at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

Tori Amos, whose career skyrocketed with the release of the 1992 multi- platinum breakthrough Little Earthquakes, has led the charge in rejuvenating the era of the female singer songwriter. With worldwide record sales topping 12 million and multiple Grammy nominations, Tori continues to be one of the most intriguing and respected artists of our time.

OH THE HORROR

I had the most horrifying dream last night. And, I'm being completely serious. In the dream, I awoke the day after the election and I seriously needed to know who won -- Bush or Kerry. I couldn't find information on who won anywhere. The newspapers didn't tell me anything ... I had a hard time getting to a computer to find out ... there was no information anywhere but I had the distinct feeling that Bush had won. I was sooo upset. I cannot express to you who horrible I felt. I was crying, I was sick to my stomach -- I was basically in complete agony.

I know this sounds weird or exaggerated but I'm being completely serious. I was physically ill in my dream over the belief that Bush had won re-election. Even in my dream I kept thinking to myself "This is only a dream, it must only be a dream" but I never "woke up" in my dream.

You have no idea how relieved I was when I awoke this morning and it was only a dream. It was the most vivid nightmare I've had in a long time.

JOHN KERRY MUST WIN THE PRESIDENCY!

I thought I was going to have a SAW nightmare but before I went to sleep I was watching news channels (CNN, MSNBC and Foxnews -- which is especially horrible in their bias bullshit in the wee hours of the morning) and they were all talking about how the Bin Laden tape was going to mean a win for Bush. This is insane to me! Bush had the opportunity to use all of the US resources to kill Bin Laden and instead he decided to go to Iraq. Iraq! He lied to us to get us to support his crusade in Iraq! If the Bin Laden tape did anything for me, it was to remind me that Bush is a horrible leader. HORRIBLE!

We must win. We must.

Kerry is doing a final rally in Detroit on Monday and it was announced this morning that Stevie Wonder will be at the rally as well. We have to win ... I believe we will win ... please make sure you are doing everything you can to ensure a Kerry victory!

Then I can finally sleep soundly.

See SAW

Oh my! I was able to see SAW tonight and I am very glad that I did. I would have been incredibly pissed if someone ruined the ending for me. It is a pretty good movie. I was not happy near the end because I felt that the ending was going to suck ... but I was wrong. I don't want to say too much so that I don't ruin the movie for anyone but if you have any interest in seeing this movie GO NOW.

I wanted to watch the 9:45 movie but when I got to the theater that movie AND the 10:30 movie were both sold out. I had to buy a ticket to see Birth (the new Nicole Kidman movie) and then sneak into the theater. They were checking tickets like crazy but I managed to slip by and walk into the theater. I would have seen Birth but I really wanted to see SAW tonight.

Yeah, so the movie was pretty ... shocking ... I wasn't quite ready to come home after the movie (especially since Erik went to his parent's for the weekend and I would be home alone) so I went to Q to dance for a little bit. Yeah, I got there and it was dead ... literally. It was exactly like City Club in there. I shit you not, they played Goldfrapp's Strict Machine, Marilyn Manson's (m)OBSCENE, Nine Inch Nails' Starfucker, Garbage's Sleep Together and Lords of Acid's I Sit On Acid ... among other gothy songs. It was awesome! I got the best of both worlds. Unfortunately it wasn't very crowded ... I told you it was dead. I had fun nonetheless.

Now I'm going to try and go to sleep without images from the movie creeping into my head. Wish me luck.

I don't think Michael Moore would mind:

If you haven't seen this movie, please watch it before the election!
We need a regime change!!!

Bee Happy!

There is a lot to talk about today. I'm going to just get to it ...

The title of Tori Amos' 8th album has been revealed. It will be entitled The Beekeeper. The Dent alerted me to the fact that MTVNews broke news of the album title and USAToday has further revealed 3 song titles -- Sweet the Sting, Sleeps With Butterflies and Ribbons Undone.

I am so excited! New Tori music ... woo!!!

Sarah and I are very anxious to get tickets to the An Evening with Tori Amos concert this coming February. She will perform songs as well as discuss her life as a working musician and mother, from the studio to the stage. Tori will be in conversation with Ann Powers, senior curator for the Experience Music Project in Seattle, and former music critic for The New York Times and The Village Voice. They are co-authors of the new book, Tori Amos, Piece by Piece. We are still hoping to do a trip to NYC to see Tori in concert.

That USAToday article also has the first look at the teaser poster for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Honestly, I expected more from a Star Wars teaser poster.

As usual, I am going to hold off judgment of the film until it is actually released but I really do not hold much faith that Episode III is going to be good enough and cover enough history to bridge the gap to Episode IV.

We'll see though ... the movie is slated for a May 2005 release.

Foxnews (among other news agents, I just like that Foxnews is eating crow) is reporting that video exists showing that US troops were in Iraq before that stockpile of weapons went missing. GWB has been hammering John Kerry on the campaign trail claiming that he is speaking about something before he has all the facts. Hello, GWB is the one who doesn't have all the facts. How can the Commander In Chief of the US armed forces NOT KNOW that US military troops were in Iraq, came upon a stockpile of weapons and then let them go missing?! He is completely unfit to lead ... as if we needed MORE PROOF of this fact! Here's a picture of a US soldier standing in front of barrels of weapons:

But we know that the Bush campaign will do "Whatever It Takes" to try and steal another election ... they will even Photoshop their campaign ads to make it look like they have FULL military support of the war in Iraq.

As you can see in this picture from the ad, sections of the soldiers pictured have been duplicated in order to fill the audience with military personnel. LIES LIES LIES! When will the US tire of GWB LIES?!? November 2nd cannot get here soon enough for me!

AND we all know that Hallowe'en is drawing ever-close, so let's look at some of 2004's Scariest Costumes (see the full list HERE):

I think I am going to dress up as Jenna Bush's liver too!

Newstime:
  • First we had VP Dick Cheney telling a Congressman to "Fuck Off" when criticized about Halliburton and now we have video of GWB giving a "one-fingered victory salute". I cannot wait to get these assholes out of our White House!
  • Speaking of Halliburton -- the FBI is now going to investigate whether or not Halliburton got the Iraq contract unfairly or not. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The FBI has made a formal request to interview the Army Corps of Engineers chief contracting officer who has alleged her agency unfairly awarded no-bid contracts worth billions of dollars to a Halliburton subsidiary for work in Iraq, law enforcement sources said Thursday. It is so past time for the whole bunch of crooks to get booted out of the White House!
  • Where there is smoke, there is fire. Bill O'Reilly has settled his sexual harrasment suit out of court. The lawyer for Fox News' top talker, Bill O'Reilly, has announced that a settlement has been reached with Andrea Mackris, the O'Reilly Factor associate producer who accused him of sexual harassment ... "On a personal note, this matter has caused enormous pain, but I had to protect my family and I did," he said on his show Thursday. "This brutal ordeal is now officially over, and I will never speak of it again." My feeling is that O'Reilly would have fought to the bitter end if he was innocent.
  • MSN Slate has posted another interesting ARTICLE on Britney Spears ... again. Geeze, is she all they cover these days? She's referred to her online missive as "The Letter of Truth: I Hope You Can Handle It," which echoes oddly the opening words of the "Prerogative" video: "They can never take away your truth. The question is: Can you handle mine?" It seems Britney can break free from everything except her own talking points. But then, that's always been her greatest trick: She strips and strips and strips, yet never reveals a thing. I love how even her critics can't stop talking about her -- a sure sign that she is a huge pop culture icon.
  • What's this? Nick Lachey has reportedly cheated on Jessica Simpson? Two US publications claimed he had sex with Jessica Jaymes at a stag night party ... The celebrity couple have rocketed to stardom, baring the most private moments of their celebrity marriage in the television series Newlyweds ... Star magazine and the National Enquirer both claimed Lachey frolicked with Jaymes at a party for his sound engineer friend Sean Sullivan ... Jaymes admitted Lachey had watched her indulge in a lesbian sex show - but denied anything else happened. IMDB news is also reporting this. I don't believe it ... yet.
  • Speaking of Jessica Simpson, you can pick up her new Xmas cd at participating 7-11 stores before it gets released in stores (weird!). Jessica Simpson's Christmas album -- currently available at 7-Eleven stores -- is being expanded for its November 23 release into other outlets. Named after her grandmother, ReJoyce - The Christmas Album features four extra songs, with the acoustic version of Simpson's cover of Robbie Williams' "Angels" the only track not to reappear on this re-release. Also out on November 23 will be Simpson's concert DVD, "Reality Tour Live," which was shot at the Los Angeles stop on her summer tour. ... Ashlee Simpson -- who sings a duet with big sis Jessica ("Little Drummer Boy") on the Christmas album -- is heading out on tour in January, according to a missive she posted Tuesday on her Web site. Yay for Ash ... Boo! for Jess.
  • "Punk" was the word for 1974 ... what was the word in the year you were born? Find out HERE. [courtesy of Thighs Wide Shut]
  • Morrissey is urging his fans to vote for John Kerry, this from NME: MORRISSEY has branded US immigration officers under GEORGE BUSH as having "all the charm and unanswerable indignation of Hitler's SS" and is urging his fans to vote for JOHN KERRY. And here is the full message from his official website (go there and check out a cute pic of Moz in a Jon Stewart for President t-shirt): With all my heart I urge people to vote against George Bush. Jon Stewart would be ideal, but John Kerry is the logical and sane move. It does not need to be said yet again, but Bush has single-handedly turned the United States into the most neurotic and terror-obsessed country on the planet. For non-Americans, the United States is suddenly not a very nice place to visit because US immigration officers -- under the rules of Bush -- now conduct themselves with all the charm and unanswerable indignation of Hitler's SS. Please bring sanity and intelligence back to the United States. Don't forget to vote. Vote for John Kerry and get rid of George Bush! I love Mozzer!
  • Diana ... good news for you -- a new novel is going to be released starring Hannibal Lecter. NEW YORK (AP) -- Readers hungry for a good thriller can get ready to welcome an old friend: a new Hannibal Lecter novel, Behind the Mask, is coming next fall. "Thomas Harris is the premier novelist of psychological suspense of our time," said Irwyn Applebaum, president and publisher of the Bantam Dell Publishing Group, which announced the book's release Thursday. Creepola! Maybe I'll just wait for the inevitable movie.
  • CLICK HERE for your first look at Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka.
  • Elton John is ready to apologize to Madonna for criticizing her lip-syncing earlier this month. Elton John is ready to apologize to Madonna after recently accusing the pop star of lip-synching. "I don't want to escalate it because I like Madonna," the 57-year-old singer-songwriter tells Entertainment Weekly. "She's been to my house for dinner. It was something that was said in the heat of the moment, and probably should not have been said." John made the comment when presenting the Best Live Act award during the Q awards in London earlier this month. In EW's Nov. 6 issue, John described the event as "a very drunken lunch." I bet she tore into his dumb ass after he made his comment. Ah well ... drama is fun amongst divas.
And that is all. Hallowe'en celebrations were pretty subdued here today. But, I have to tell you ... an important bit of information has made its way to my hungry ears. The headmaster of the school where I work (who I can't stand, as you know) was in New York interviewing for another job! He told us, the faculty, that he would be away for "meetings". Well those "meetings" are actually interviews at other schools. I cannot tell you how happy I will be when GWB loses the election AND our headmaster also goes away. This news is SO DEVELOPING ... I'll keep you informed.

I found out last night that John Kerry is going to hold one more rally in Michigan (downtown Detroit, actually) on Monday and I plan on going. We have the day off work for Teacher Records Day and my grades are D-O-N-E! Woo! I love Kerry!!!

Last thing, a new blog that I've been reading, Fishering, posted this great picture and I wanted to share it with you too.

I couldn't agree more!

Naughty Or Nice

It's that time of year again. The leaves are turning colors and falling off trees. The morning chill has a little bite as you venture off to work. Abercrombie & Fitch roll out their winter wear and revamp their website.

I am going to try and control myself but there is one item that I think I'm going to have to rush out and buy. Hey, we all have our vices, no?

Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, A&F stores across the country put on display half-naked models who are meant to entice shoppers into the store. This year they are offering the chance to have your photo taken with the models (donations will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Aw, how nice!

Speaking of half-nekked people, did you catch this week's episode of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Battle of the Sexes 2? The mission was hilarious and resulted in this:

Try and catch the repeat if you can. The annoying boys keep winning but it's fun to see who gets voted off and why ... I love it!

And don't be alarmed, the people below are friends of mine:

Jeff and Adam were Siamese Twins, Tony was a creepy carnie and John (aka Pete Sampras) was a bearded lady. The theme was Carnival of Corpses or something like that. These guys are scarier than The Grudge ... eek!

Enough tomfoolery, let's get to the news:
  • Apple has released their new 60Gb iPod and have announced plans to release a special U2 version iPod and now comes news of an Ashlee Simpson edition iPod ... check it out HERE.
  • Not only is Britney Spears releasing a cd of her greatest hits but she is also releasing a DVD of her greatest hits videos. BUT, it's not going to be just a compilation of her vids, there will be new versions of her videos with never-before-seen material. Not only are some of the clips rarely seen and, in some cases, never-before-seen versions, but 10 of the 20 videos that comprise the November 9 collection have been expanded and enhanced. Fans can watch new footage from "Everytime" and "(You Drive Me) Crazy," as well as the never-before-released material shot before the singer's knee injury on the set of "Outrageous", including one scene where she's playing basketball with Snoop Dogg and ends up in his arms, giving him a little lick for luck ... Spears' camp was able to provide so many alternate versions because directors often shoot a full pass at a song in each costume, and then only use a few moments of it in the finished clip. So while some of the alternate takes of "... Baby One More Time" and "Oops! ... I Did It Again" will look familiar, the videos have been re-cut for a whole new feel. One of those alternate clips, for "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," makes the most use of Britney's body of work, with the spaceman from "Oops! ... I Did It Again," an opening door from "My Prerogative" and a guy from "Toxic" all making cameos. And though "Outrageous" was never finished, it, too, gets an alternate version. This is awesome news! I love her videos and I can't wait to see these alternate takes. Woo!
  • Hey, guess what ... Courtney Love is going to trial! Singer Courtney Love has been ordered to stand trial on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon despite her attorney's claim the case had been "grossly overcharged." Love was ordered to appear for arraignment Nov. 10. She remained free on $150,000 bail ... "We hope this will be resolved in a way to allow her to move on with her life," defense attorney Howard Weitzman said outside court. Quel surprise! Good luck, Court ... we're pullin' for ya.
  • George W. Bush was voted the year's #1 movie villain in Britain. LONDON - Readers of a British magazine have rated President Bush the year’s top screen villain, for his appearance in Michael Moore’s documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Bush beat out a shortlist of fictional film bad guys, including the nefarious Doctor Octopus, played by Alfred Molina, in “Spider-Man 2”; cannibalistic Leatherface in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”; Andy Serkis’ creepy Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy; and the eyepatch-wearing assassin played by Daryl Hannah in “Kill Bill: Vol. 2.” Come November 2nd, Americans will also vote him our #1 villain when we boot his ass from the White House! MSNBC is running their own online poll with the same question and the same choices, here are the current results:

Best screen villain? * 7436 responses

    President Bush 72%
    Doctor Octopus 4%
    Leatherface 6%
    Gollum 8%
The Bride in 'Kill Bill' 4%
    Other 7%
  • Looks like there will only be one movie to be made about Alexander the Great. Baz Luhrmann's keenly anticipated "Alexander The Great" film is now officially dead, according to his Australian friend Nicole Kidman, who was supposed to co-star in it as Olympias. Ah well, I really didn't think Leonardo DiCaprio would make as good an Alexander as Colin (yum!) Farrell.
That is all. I got 99.9% of my grades and comments done so I think I'm going to be all set when grades are due Tuesday. Today is my early day so I'll be leaving as soon as I post this entry. I think I shall be trekking out to the mall tonight ... woo! Tomorrow is pay day too! Yehaw!

All I need is a new president and I'll be having the best year ever!

PS: OMG! Blogger crashed on me when I tried to publish and I thought I lost this entry ... I would have been PISSED! Shane, if you're reading this, sorry I yelled at you ... you can yell at me tomorrow (or in the comments).

Another Good Omen!!!

Woodrow Wilson (Democrat) was president 86 years ago in 1918. That was the last time the Boston Red Sox won the World Series ... until tonight!

Boston sweeps St. Louis to win it all.

Methinks this bodes well for John Kerry ... Woo!!!

It's The Great Pumpkins!

Date night was fun! Please note that the Bush/Cheney sign was only used for pumpkin guts. I have only just begun to defile the wretched sign ... Mwahahahahaha!

I love Hallowe'en!!!

Making The Grade

Today has been a pretty busy day. I've been dealing with computer problems since I walked in the door this morning. I had to administer a quiz and prepare a lecture ... grades are due by next Tuesday (election day) so I have to get cracking on writing comments and finalizing my grades. Boo! I hate this part of teaching.

I think Erik has pumpkin carving set as tonight's Date Night activity -- should be messy. Weekend plans are up in the air because I think he is going home for the weekend. I'll probably be flying solo. The movie SAW opens this Friday and The Bang! is this Saturday, then Halloween on Sunday. I have no plans right now and it's making my head hurt to think about it. So, instead, I'm going to just get to the news:
  • This date may change again but the NEW release date for Tori Amos' album is February 22, 2005. I earlier reported from a reliable source that the release date for Tori's new Epic album would be February 8, 2005. That source now tells me that the release date has been delayed until February 22, 2005. This should still be seen as a tentative release date that could change again before February. But for now, February 22nd is the most likely release date. Wee! I cannot wait for this album to come out!
  • Wiccans get some respect -- a school district in Washington is canceling it's Halloween festivities because they are insensitive to Witches. A letter sent home to parents Wednesday said there will be no observance of Halloween in any of the district's schools ... "We really want to make sure we're using all of our time in the best interest of our students," Puyallup School District spokeswoman Karen Hansen said ... The superintendent made the decision for three primary reasons, Hansen said. First, Halloween parties and parades waste valuable classroom time. Second, some families can't afford costumes and the celebrations thus can create embarrassment for children ... Both of those reasons seemed sensible to the parents who spoke to ABC News affiliate KOMO-TV in Seattle. But the district's third reason left some Puyallup parents shaking their heads ... The district said Halloween celebrations and children dressed in Halloween costumes might be offensive to real witches ... "Witches with pointy noses and things like that are not respective symbols of the Wiccan religion and so we want to be respectful of that," Hansen said. I love it! While I don't hold that celebrating Halloween is insensitive to Wiccans (nor do I hold that "witch stereotypes" are offensive to me personally) I think it's great that this school district is taking great lengths to respect the feelings of Wiccans in their community. Blessed Be!
  • Ruh-ro ... here she comes again, Paris Hilton is getting ready for Simple Life 3. NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Two rich blond women and three dogs will board a Greyhound bus on Wednesday -- with dozens of cameramen, makeup artists and hangers-on in hot pursuit -- as a new installment of the reality TV show "The Simple Life" starts filming ... The stars of the show, heiress Paris Hilton and her best friend Nicole Richie, said they planned to spend the eve of their departure packing -- nine suitcases for Hilton and six for Richie. Loves it! I think That's Hot!
  • Who keeps counseling Madonna that she should keep making movies? She is set to voice an animated movie: MADONNA is to star in forthcoming big budget children’s film ‘ARTHUR’, directed by LUC BESSON ... The $80 million film is based on the children’s books written by French director Besson, and will feature Madonna as the voice of Princess Selenia. While that doesn't sound so horrible, the fact that she is making another movie with her husband is: They may have produced one of the biggest flops in recent movie history, but that hasn't stopped Madonna and Guy Ritchie teaming up again ... The Material Girl and her film director hubby start filming new gangster flick Revolver in London this week. Oh lord! Will she never learn?!
  • Holly Valance is going to be in the new movie Pledge This? THIS ARTICLE seems to imply that that is the case: Valance, currently in the US filming Pledge with Hilton, says it has nothing to do with her ... "To claim that I helped organise a meeting between Mark and Paris is an absolute outrage," she said. The article is all about Paris Hilton hooking up with some Aussie tennis player and the allegation that Holly is the one who hooked them up. I only post this information because I had no idea Holly was going to be in the movie. Shane, did you know this?
  • Billboard magazine has started a chart for ringtones! LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Those synthesized tunes that send people grabbing for their cell phones and annoy patrons in restaurants and theaters have been recognized as part of the music industry by Billboard Magazine ... The new chart, known as the Billboard Hot Ringtones Chart, will reflect the "Top 20" polyphonic ringtone sales for each week, including song title, artist, previous week's position and number of weeks on the chart. Hilarious! I love ringtones.
  • Ashton Kutcher claims he was punk'd by George W. Bush. Ashton Kutcher is known as the guy on MTV who punks his unsuspecting Hollywood friends. But at a rally for Democratic veep candidate John Edwards at a Dubuque, Iowa, hockey rink yesterday, Kutcher told a rather excited crowd that he, too, has been punk'd -- by George Bush ... "I thought he was a good ol' boy," the Iowa native told the ralliers about why he voted for Dubya in 2000. But "unlike Bush, I know how to admit when I was wrong." Someone in the audience yelled, "You got punk'd!" reports The Post's John Wagner. "Yeah, we got punk'd," Demi Moore's boy-toy said to a round of cheers, adding: "I'm not a politician, but I'm not an idiot, either. I just play one on TV." The whole country was punk'd by stupid Bush! We won't be fooled again! Kerry will win!
That is all. I have grading to do ... boo! I'm so tired, I need to get out of here. Boo!

Another Letter Of Truth

Ashlee Letter to Fans
10/26/2004 12:47:42 PM - by ashlee simpson

Hey guys!

I'm sure you all have figured out how crazy its been the last few days, but I just wanted to personally write to y'all-my true fans-and thank you for your support and love. I have decided to speak openly and honestly about what happened on snl because I want you guys to know what really happened. My acid refux started acting up and I know my real fans know that music and performing is my true passion and you support me for that....I couldn't control what happened that day. People always say things that are hurtful, and I encourage my fans to do what I do and not read what people are saying on the internet...in a couple of days everyone's attention will be on someone else. As far as me and my band are concerned...we are all a family and love each other very much-they are the best guys in the world and I wouldn't want anyone else to be with me at this time.

Keep up the support...its the love my fans have shown me that makes me want to go back out there and continue to prove all the negative press wrong!

Look out for me to go on tour starting in January...its gonna be awesome!

I love you guys!!

Ash

This letter was posted on her official website today. As long as she doesn't sprial down like Britney has, I think she's going to be O.K. Time will tell.

"Got Stains On My T-Shirt ..."

As I said before, the rally last night was fun but loooong! We waited, along with thousands of others, for a long time. Eventually, Bon Jovi arrived, sang some songs and then John Kerry came out and wowed the crowd

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm was on hand to partake in the festivities too! It was pretty cool being that close to the next president of the United States of America! It was so worth it! If you get the chance, try to go to a rally -- it will renew your faith in a Kerry Victory!!!

And AshleeGate rolls on. As if the horrible debacle from Saturday night wasn't bad enough, yesterday saw a barrage of explanations flying everywhere over "what really happened on SNL". The final word, apparently, is that she was suffering from acid reflux which stole her voice. She was determined to sing live (despite doctor's orders) but her father insisted that she use the backing track to fortify her voice. It was the "first time" she ever had to use a backing track and BAM! she got caught. You can read the full explanation in THIS STORY. Ashlee even called TRL yesterday to explain her side of the story.

I wonder if she'll ever get to do Saturday Night Live again to redeem herself? My guess is no ...

Last night she did perform live at the Radio Music Awards. I couldn't find video of the performance to share with you but she did make reference to the SNL fiasco.

As she was ready to perform her band started playing Pieces of Me (the song that malfunctioned Saturday night) and she yelled out "Wait! Wrong song! Just kidding ..." and then, laughing, ripped into Autobiography, the song she was supposed to sing on SNL when she messed up. This morning she went on the Today show to explain to Katie Couric what "really" happened Saturday night. Pure damage control ... but the smart thing to do

I don't care, I still love Ashlee!

But, let's do the other news now:
  • HERE is the umpteen-millionth article about how Ikea is coming to Detroit. The proposed store in Canton Township would be the fourth IKEA in the upper Midwest. The retailer currently has locations in Schaumburg, Ill., and Bloomington, Minn., and last month it broke ground on a new store in Bolingbrook, Ill. Pending approval, construction on the Michigan store could start in the spring and open for business in the summer of 2006, the company said. We'll see ...
  • The new Eminem video which RIPS INTO GWB has leaked to the 'Net. A video for the song is currently being streamed at the Guerrilla News Network, www.gnn.tv. In the animated clip the rapper is seen mocking some of Bush's biggest gaffs -- including reading a book upside down ... Also in the clip there's cartoon footage of soldiers being given their orders to go to Iraq, a woman given an eviction notice and various newspaper clippings about the war ... The video ends with a message urging people to vote. And I urge you to vote for Kerry.
  • Cingular got the go-ahead to purchase AT&T Wireless to create the largest mobile phone company in the US. Cingular said it closed its $41 billion purchase AT&T Wireless (AWE) on Tuesday ... Cingular received approval for the deal earlier in the day from the Federal Communications Commission. The Department of Justice approved the acquisition on Monday. I doubt I'll see any savings on my mobile phone bill but ... maybe some day?
  • It's official, let's welcome Bennifer 2.0. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have gone public with their romance for the first time after the movie hunk treated his new Jen to a baseball treat at the weekend. The cute couple, who met on the set of Daredevil, were spotted among fans at Boston, Massachusetts' Fenway Park, on Saturday and Sunday for Affleck's beloved Boston Red Sox's World Series opening games against the St Louis Cardinals. The couple were pictured sharing a hotdog and cuddling as baseball fans around them cheered and jibed them. Affleck was approached to throw out the first ball before Saturday's game, but he declined. He starts the week a very happy man - his team won the first two games. Any bets on how long this one will last? J. Lo and Marc Anthony are still going strong ...
And that's all I got for now. I'm going to keep looking for that Ashlee video because I know a few of you hoped to see it. I'll be back if need be ... LATERS!

8 More Days!

The John Kerry rally was really fun ... but long and exhausting too. I'll post more pictures tomorrow. Click below to hear a little audio clip of Bon Jovi performing Living On A Prayer.

Kerry Us To Victory!

Bill Clinton is campaigning with John Kerry in Pennsylvania. I'm about to leave work to get in line for the rally here in Michigan. Let's get it started, y'all!

Supreme Court Hanging In The Balance

Rehnquist Hospitalized With Cancer in Md.

WASHINGTON - William H. Rehnquist, a conservative who is the second oldest man ever to be chief justice of the Supreme Court, has been hospitalized with thyroid cancer.

The 80-year-old Rehnquist spent the weekend in Bethesda Naval Hospital in suburban Maryland, and underwent a tracheotomy on Saturday, the Supreme Court said Monday in a statement ...

The next president of the United States will be in a position to choose the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court! This election is very important! GWB must NOT be given the ability to shape the Supreme Court ... we'd all be DOOMED!

A Fresh Start

Well, the weekend is over and while I wouldn't call it a bust I also wouldn't classify it as a stunner of a weekend. Our plans were squashed at every turn and in the end the weekend didn't turn out the way we had hoped. We were able to attend Kirsten's Fall Food Party which was very fun! The highlight for me was the Animal Yoga tape ... but the apple crisp was pretty great too.

Today John Kerry is having a rally at Macomb County Community College in Warren, Michigan. I am planning on leaving work at 2pm so that I can get there at 3pm. Doors open at 4pm and he is scheduled to appear after 6pm. Bon Jovi and Bob Seger are scheduled to appear as well. Bill Clinton is appearing with John Kerry at 1pm in Pennsylvania, PA. today (I kinda wish we were getting Clinton but after the Pennsylvania rally he is going down to Florida -- those states need him more than we do).

I'm excited for this rally. I got to see Bill Clinton at Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit right before the '92 election and he went on to win the White House. I never got to see Al Gore at a rally in 2000 so ... I'm all about the omens. This race is so close, I'll take anything I can get (this is why I'm rooting for the Boston Red Sox).

Adriana sent this really cool picture to a ton of people in a mass email over the weekend:

Which sparked a debate of it's own (which I won't go into detail about; I'll only say that "Joey" is wrong, as usual, and Sarah is totally right). There is so much KERRY SUPPORT all across the country (HERE is a list of US newspapers that have endorsed John Kerry -- it's a LOOOONG LIST, you'll have to scroll for a long time to get to the bottom) ... GOD we have to win this election! I'm really counting on record turn-out to secure a win for Kerry/Edwards.

So, The Grudge was the #1 movie this weekend. I loved it, Erik and Sarah were scared by it and, apparently, Diana was horrified by it.

It's a good thing I decided NOT to prank call Diana in the middle of the night and make that scary "Arhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound on her cell phone. She'd have probably killed me!

And I have to say one last thing about the whole Ashlee Simpson debacle -- whatevs, who cares? People are so surprised that she lip-synced on TV. Hello, newsflash, everyone lip-syncs on televised music programs. I think she should have just come right back out and sang her song properly. She would have gotten so much respect for singing it anyway. I think her little "dance-a-jig-and-then-run-off-stage" idea was a bad one though:

Her record company blamed the fiasco on a "computer glitch" and she blamed her band -- I bet you $10,000 she sh*t her pants a little when she realized she effed up on live television. I think reports of her career being "over" are extremely exaggerated. She is supposed to perform on the Radio Music Awards this week -- I bet you another 10K she sings live. She wouldn't dare do it again ... right?

Let's do the news now:
  • The countdown has begun. Tori Amos' new album is tentatively set for a February 8, 2005 release. From MikeWhy: A reliable source has told me that the current release date for Tori's new Epic album is February 8, 2005. Several other people have been emailing me with various dates that range from January to March 2005, but this date at the moment seems the most current. (Thanks to everyone for your emails!) As usual, these release dates are fluid and can change. We know nothing about the new album really, although we have heard tiny comments made by drummer Matt Chamberlain, who recorded the album with Tori earlier this year, as well as a small tidbit from Neil Gaiman. Looks like we have an exciting 2005 to look forward to! Woo! I can't wait!!!
  • Scooby-Doo has the new record for the cartoon with the most episodes (in the UK? The article isn't quite clear). The show's 350th episode, Scooby-Doo Halloween, is being screened on the Boomerang channel on Friday, beating a previous record held by The Simpsons ... The Simpsons previously held the cartoon record with 335 episodes, followed by Tom and Jerry with 209, The Flintstones (166) and Disney's Mickey Mouse (120) ... "It's a great honour to have taken Homer's crown," said Richard Kilgarriff of Boomerang TV ... Scooby-Doo will now be listed in the 2006 Guinness World Record book published at the end of next year. Wow -- kinda cool.
  • Rap the vote? Eminem is going to vote for the first time this presidential election and he's not endorsing Bush. "Bush is definitely not my homie" the rap superstar said in an interview with Rolling Stone, parts of which were posted Thursday on the magazine's Web site. "But I'm still undecided. Kerry has been known to say some things that?s caught my attention, made a few statements I've liked, but I don't know. Whatever my decision, I would like to see Bush out of office." Whatever, he is going to vote for Kerry, he just wants to be cool and not declare his choice publicly. Whatever I think about Eminem as a person, I'll take his vote.
  • In the "duh" category, Lost has finally been picked up for the full season. ABC's plane crash castaway drama "Lost" has been picked up for a full season, which means another nine episodes will be filmed in addition to the 13 already in production, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported Friday ... The series is also one of the most expensive ever filmed in Hawaii. The two-hour pilot was the most expensive in the network's history, costing as much as $14 million. Each episode costs between $3 million and $4 million. I had no idea it wasn't optioned for a full season from the get-go. It'll probably be the most successful new show this season (if only because Desperate Housewives doesn't appeal to as many people as Lost does).
And that's it for now. I'm going to get some work done before I split at 2. I hope to get a good seat at the indoor rally, I want to take a ton of pictures. Watch for those soon.

Saturday Night Dead

Man oh man! I read about this early this morning and then Stereogum found the video (courtesy of Ashlee.us) of the horrible debacle!

Ashlee Simpson really, REALLY screwed up on LIVE TELEVISION last night on Saturday Night Live (sic)! You have to see it (cringing) to believe it.

Poor Ashlee.

Grudge Report

Erik and I spent much of last night watching season 5 episodes of Buffy. We're plugging away -- we've seen the first 7 episodes of the season (1/3 of them). Gah, the series is sooo good! Erik is finally getting a true appreciation for the characters, the storylines, the writing, etc. Wee! I love it!

Afterwards, I was able to catch up with this week's episodes of Charmed and Lost.

Finally, Charmed is back to normal. The episodes are back on track, just like classic episodes. I loved the one last week and this week's was great too. Lost was pretty good. I've been reading some spoilers and, boy, there are some great surprises still to come. Apparently, there is an episode coming up that will be better than even the best episode of Alias! Not sure about that but I'm game. I'll watch until I'm no longer interested. I think, though, I will be watching this show for a while.

This morning FX was showing the Buffy Musical Episode Once More With Feeling and I was able to watch a tiny bit of it before going to work

I was actually singing and dancing in our living room -- I didn't want to go to work! Hahahaha! I'm such a dork.

While watching TV last night I caught the trailer for the new Nicholas Cage movie called National Treasure. Now, this is funny -- right before Jeff (the brother of the guy who starred in Gigli who I talked about yesterday) and I broke up last year he was telling me that his brother had just scored a part in "the next Nick Cage movie" that had something to do with "a treasure map" and was going to be "a big adventure movie" because Jerry Bruckheimer was directing. At the time I thought it was a dumb idea. Seeing the trailer makes me think otherwise.

Check out the official website to learn all about the movie (you can also get your own Justin Bartha buddy icon for AIM) or you can go HERE to see the first 10 minutes of the film (the link was sent to me by Jeff, the brother, this morning). This is kinda cool ... right?

Well, if that's not cool enough for you I have something else ... how about the new Superman's Friendster profile [courtesy of Defamer]:

Click the image to see it larger

You can see his actual Friendster profile HERE but who knows how long it will be active now that he's going to be all famous. And, to tell you the truth, he could have posted some better pix of himself too:

I wonder if Christian Bale has a Friendster profile too?

Anyways, let's get to the (short) list of news items:
  • I had to do a double-take when I read this news headline -- Mexico's Venegas Tops at MTV Latin Awards. Hahahah, as far as I know, even though we share the same last name, we're not related. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (Hollywood Reporter) - With three wins including artist of the year, Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas dominated MTV's Video Music Awards Latin America on Thursday. I love that her name is Julieta (pronounced Hoo-Lee-Etta).
  • Wow, it seems that Madonna and Celine Dion are relatives of one another. Are Madonna and Celine Dion related? ... That’s the claim being made by genealogist Troy Dunn, who traced back the ancestry of the two very different songbirds and found they shared roots ... Dunn, of MyFamily.com says that the company contacted both Madonna and Dion with the happy news. “Madonna’s people had no comment,” he said. “Celine’s people were horrified.” Hahahahaha! Hilarious!
  • HERE is a list of video stores across the country that are giving away free rentals of Fahrenheit 9/11. If you haven't seen it yet, get your butt out there and see it!
  • Nerve.com, always the cool website that it is, has posted the results of its latest Sex Poll (which is politically themed). Do yourself a favor, check out the results ... they're awesome [courtesy of M@]
And that is all. I am TOTALLY going home today. My parent's weren't home yesterday so I'm going today after school. The Grudge finally opens today and Erik, Sarah and I are going to check it out.

I cannot wait to see this film. All I've heard is how scary it is. We'll, regardless, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in it and I love her so I'm sure it will rock balls!

The closer we come to Saturday the less likely it seems that we will be able to do our trip to Cedar Point for Halloweekend. I'm pretty bummed, I haven't been to Cedar Point in a long time and I really wanted to go this time. Sarah and I have had some great times at Halloweekends there in years past and I was hoping that we would be able to do it again.

But no one, especially me, wants to go if it's going to rain and now there is a 60% chance of rain all day long. Boo! So, the weekend will be up in the air ... who knows what's gonna happen.
