I have not been keeping up with setlists and was shocked when How Soon Is Now? was the first song played. I love that song ... it's definitely one of my favorite The Smiths songs ever. Anyways, the show was incredibly tight. Moz sounded amazing even if he looked really ragged. Sioux has kept her beauty, Moz has not. That must have been why he hired a bunch of hot guys to be his backing band. Boz (his long time guitarist) and Alain were also looking pretty rough but the rest of his band (Deano the HOT drummer, the other guitarist and the keyboardist) were CUTE! Morrissey really loves pretty men. Incidentally, all the bandmembers were wearing Jobriah t-shirts (a naked Jobriath I might add) ... hmmmm ...
My favorite part of the night was when Moz unbuttoned his shirt and grabbed both of his nipples! It was hilarious ... I think I saw 10 guys swoon. Which brings me to the kid who was crying the entire show. I looked over at him (during one of the ballads, How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel I think) and I watched a tear stream down his face and fall off his chin. Read the kid's post HERE at a Morrissey forum where he talked about his elation at being able to touch Moz.
Moz also took off one of his shirts and threw it into the audience, sadly I did not get this one (I got the shirt the last time I saw him in concert) ... alas.
Incidentally, the audience was mostly gay, the only reason it wasn't 100% gay was because there were women there ... a Madonna concert is probably the only place you'd find more gays in the audience (maybe a Cher concert). Seriously, there were HUGE guys there -- meaty straight-looking guys who sang every word along with Morrissey ... it was bizarre.
The opening act guy was not so great ... he had a very thick Irish accent. I loved hearing him talk, his music ... not so great. Incidentally, there was a lot of Kerry support among the fans (obviously) and I wore this new shirt that I got at A&F this weekend:
But enough of the show -- This weekend was very fun. Brandon and I did a lot of hanging out and I have to admit, I loved it. He's so easy going and fun. We did some major Mortal Kombat damage ... fun fun fun. Friday night Mike (and his friend from New York), Kirsten, VLB, Erik, Brandon and I all went to Sarah's on Friday to celebrate Mark's birthday. It was a very fun night with friends. The rest of the weekend was spent in front of the big-screen TV playing video games. It's a good thing Erik was away, he would have never allowed us to play as much as we did :)
But, let's get to the news ...
- In case you missed it, Jon Stewart went on CNN's Crossfire to take on the conservative loudmouth Tucker Carlson. I watched most of it -- it was great: Carlson: I do think you're more fun on your show. Just my opinion. Stewart: You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show. Awesome! Stereogum has a LINK to an MP3 download of the entire exchange. Visit 1115.org for a video download link and a picture.
- Tommy Lee has gone from the banging drums for the Crüe to banging drums in the Corp. Lee, 42, joined the band in the stands in full uniform, playing along with other drummers, a broad smile on his face ... Lee took part in the band's Latin music halftime show, playing a rack of five tom-toms carried on his shoulders. A cheer went up from the stands as Lee was shown on the stadium's giant TV screens during a rendition of the Cuban song "Malaguena." He was spotted afterwards doing a keg-stand at the Tri-Alph house with a slew of Sorostitutes.
- What You Gonna Do Gwen? You just found out that your husband, Gavin Rossdale, is the baby daddy of a 15-year old love child. THERE'S no doubt about it — the hubby of rocker Gwen Stefani is the father of a secret, 15-year-old love child, a new report claims. The bombshell news was delivered to Stefani, the sexy blonde singer with No Doubt, after DNA tests confirmed Gavin Rossdale, who fronts the band Bush, is the dad of teen fashion model Daisy Lowe, the Mirror of London says. The mother of the girl is singer and designer Pearl Lowe, who had a fling with Rossdale in the late '80s. "Yes, it's true, but out of respect to all parties concerned, I've no further comment," Rossdale told the newspaper. Yikes! Poor Gwen ... what a crappy situation.
- The Sun Newspaper (UK) has posted a fabulous exposé on the only piece of clothing that Kevin Federline wears ... the wife-beater -- and they beg him to get rid of it. While Britney displays a different message on her T-shirt every day, the same can’t be said for Kev. Just like his facial expression, his shirts are always blank. In fact, I’ve never seen him wear anything other than that white vest. Just take a look at the photos and you’ll see what I mean. The weekend was no exception. Check out the photos HERE.
I do have to give Sherri a shout-out though. She was on ULS' campus today (briefly) to speak to interested students about U of M-Dearborn. I was able to see her for about 15 minutes before I had to go teach my class. She gave me the news that she closes on her first house tomorrow! I'm so happy for her! I hope everything turns out perfect for her and her family. I hope we are able to hang out soon. It's been far too long.
BTW: The first thing I did after I greeted her (after a hug) was give her a Kerry/Edwards button to wear! Woo!
