Everybody's Workin' For The Weekend
Hurray! Naomi Campbell survived her 5-day sentence of community service ... well ... almost survived the full sentence. Here are pictures of Naomi as she arrives on the last day at her place of employment this week lookin' happy as can be. Today is the first day that she actually wore her work boots to work ... paired with her ivory-colored MC Hammer pants, she is such a sight to behold:

All the reports say that Naomi has been a model sanitation employee (no pun intended) all week long ... and you gotta wonder if she's gonna miss her week-long stint as a workin' stiff. I bet she'll end up bringing home a few souvenirs to remember her experience ... maybe a mop, a broom or one of her fellow employees to berate behind closed doors safe and sound within the confines of her own home. Tom Cruise was honored in LA last night at the Mentor Los Angeles Promise Gala which was held at the Twentieth Century Fox studios lot. Tommy boy was honored for his commitment to the welfare of LA's youth ... whatever that means. Here are a few pictures from the event's red carpet:

It looked like it was a very coupley affair ... not only were TomKat in attendance but so were Demi Moore & hubby Ashton Kutcher, Nancy Wilson (of Heart) & hubby Cameron Crowe and JJ & Katie Abrams. It would seem that Hollywood couples are all about the mentoring ... or maybe they're all about the TomKat ... who knows? As much as I love to give Tom some good natured ribbing, I think it's cool that he is so committed to the welfare of LA's youth. He definitely should be commended for giving so much of his time to helping others ... and he should also be commended for making the world start to forget his cruiseaziness. Well done! [Source]
Madonna launched her first fashion line, M by Madonna, in H&M stores worldwide yesterday ... and the reception and reviews are pretty mixed. While one British publication calls the launch a success ("M for Madonna madness") another calls it an embarrassing failure ("Madonna's material disaster") ... I guess we'll have to wait to see how the whole line does in the long run:
One report reads: Hundreds of shoppers poured into the H&M store in Oxford Circus today as Madonna's fashion collection hit the high street. Fans braved freezing temperatures from 6am to be in the queue. They grabbed everything from leather trench coats to oversize sunglasses from the M for Madonna collection as the store played the singer's music. While the other reports: MATERIAL girl Madonna suffered a rare flop yesterday — when her fashion range went on sale in London and hardly anyone turned up to buy it. Only 20 people were queuing at the Oxford Circus branch of H&M when the store opened at 9am. There had been scenes of mayhem in November when Stella McCartney's range of clothes launched there. Hundreds were outside the store from dawn and catfights broke out as clothing rails were stripped in seven minutes. H&M said the low turnout was due to the collection going on sale nationwide -- while Stella's debuted at the store ... Luckily the millionaire singer, 48, was not there — as H&M played Kylie Minogue hits in the store instead of hers. LOL! Both reports are from the same H&M store at Oxford Circus. I'm sure that the truth is somewhere in the middle ... I paid a quick visit to the H&M store at the Beverly Center to pick up a pair of M by Madonna sunglasses and found the place was still bustling even as the store was closing. The place looked like a tornado hit but the store was far from sold out. I'm sure the Madonna fans will buy to thier hearts content ... but it remains to be see if other will as well. One might assume that a movie about rival male ice figure skaters who pair up to compete in doubles competition might be a pretty ridiculous premise for a movie ... and you'd be correct in that assumption. But that's what makes the movie so fun. I absolutely hated Talladega Nights and was hoping that this movie would be better ... for me, it definitely was. While it's true that both Will Ferrell and Jon Heder essentially play the same characters in each movie they do, those same characters really work in the storylines of all of their movies. I must admit that I haven't been this entertained by a movie about ice skating since The Cutting Edge (starring DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly) came out in 1992. There are a lot of fun cameos by real life professional ice skaters but there was one glaring omission ... WHERE WAS TONYA HARDING? If there was anyone hard up for the money and publicity it would be her ... she really missed out on an opportunity here. Trust me, the movie is total fluff ... but it's pretty funny as hell fluff (altho, I don't feel that Jenna Fischer from The Office was utilized to her full potential). It's a fun movie ... I loved it, Adriana absolutely loved and I even heard another person in the theater proclaim it the best Will Ferrell movie he's ever seen. While I wouldn't go that far (after all, Elf is pretty damn good) I would say it's one of his better movies.
Tracey and Zakiya, after suffering thru a bit of a traveling delay, finally made it to LA last night. They arrived at around 10 and then baby Z proceeded to begin her destruction of my apartment :) She woke up very early this morning ... so it's been a very interesting morning already. She is napping now ... so Tracey and I can plan our day. The weekend will be fun, I'm sure of it ... I hope yours is too.
