Mariah Carey Is #1 Again

Mariah Carey has more cause to celebrate this week ... after recently celebrating her record-breaking 18th #1 single a couple of weeks ago (to become the most successful solo artist in music history), Mimi finds herself poised at the top of the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart this week with the 6th #1 album of her career. Selling 463,000 copies of E=MC2 since the album's release last Tuesday, Mariah had the most successful first week sales of her career ... I think it's safe to say that Mariah Carey is pretty much at the height of her career ... she ain't having a bad week either:

Mariah Carey earns her sixth No. 1 on The Billboard 200 as her "E=MC2" bows on top. The Island Def Jam set moved 463,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the diva's biggest sales week ever. It's also the highest sales week of the year, surpassing the 375,000 start of Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" in February. Carey's last album, "The Emancipation of Mimi," also landed at No. 1 in its premiere week, moving 404,000. She is now tied with Madonna and Janet Jackson for the second most No. 1 albums among female artists. Only queen bee Barbra Streisand, with eight, is ahead of the pack. There's a good chance Madonna will add another No. 1 to her tally though, as her "Hard Candy" album drops next Tuesday (April 29).

It's pretty amazing how Mariah Carey's music career turned out. After making a stunning debut with her self-titled debut album back in 1990 she pretty quietly amassed an impressive string of #1 albums and songs while other artists like Madonna, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston were making all the noise. I've always been aware of Mimi's hit songs throughout the years but I never really paid much attention to her chart success. I remember being very surprised when I heard that Mariah had surpassed Madge, Celine and Whitney with #1s and was closing in on Elvis Presley's record (with her latest #1 song, Mariah also ties Elvis's record of being at #1 on the singles chart for 79 total weeks) ... and then she surpassed him, the King of Rock and Roll! Now she's got The Beatles in her sights and I have no doubt that she will surpass their record of 20 #1s, most likely with her latest #1 album, to become the most successful artist in music history. Damn. It's very impressive if you look at it this way. It's even more impressive when you consider that she's prolly got a bunch more albums to release in the future. [Source]

News like this is just cause for a celebration ... so Mariah wrangled up some of her friends (including Da Brat) for a private dinner party at Mr. Chow last night. Here are a couple pics of Mimi lookin' her diva best as she made her way out of the restaurant:

Bow down, indeed. Mariah Carey is sittin' pretty on top of the world ... something tells me that she's going to be enjoying the view from up there for quite some time.
